We use Nipsco for gas and electricity.  We started service with Nipsco Home Solutions to insure the furnace and other  appliances for $78.70/month.  In November, 2016 we were double-billed for $157.40, inexplicably.  Every NIPSCO rep agrees with us that we were double billed.  They say, also, that Home Solutions is a separate company and that they can't change the bill without being told to by Home Solutions.  Home Solutions on the other hand tells us lie after lie.  They say they bill in two month cycles which is a TOTAL lie.  We have been billed the same amount EVERY month, before and after the double-billing which stands out like black on white.  The last straw was when Home Solutions said thy would send a reason for the error.  Two months later we are still waiting.

 

I've written to Nipsco's Corporate office complaint site and one agent said they will now talk to Home Solutions (after I told them I would be filing a case with the FTC and contacting the regulatory commission).  My hope in writing this complaint is to find if any others have been so ripped off.  Public Utilities throw their weight around because of their power.  If anyone else feels the sme way then I say CONSUMERS UNITE!

This is to inform other consumers how arduous it can be to resolve an issue.  I was finally able to get NIPSCO to get its "ex" company to stop double billing us.  Initially they refused to even talk saying NIPSCO Home Solutions was no longer their company; yet, they collected Home Solutions payments and maintained that they could not do anything unless Home Solutions mauthorized it--which they wouldn't.

I contacted and filed complaints with the Attorney-General's office in Indiana and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.  I finally got NIPSCO to talk to me after contacting state senator Lonnie Randolph.  I made it known that I would be compelled to file a small claims case citing the CEO and COO of NIPSCO as defendants.  Almost immediately I received a call from NIPSCO saying the charges were canceled and my account was credited.  It took some weeks and a lot of effort but justice was obtained.
