Think that using a major mover and buying Full Replacement Valuation Insurance from that carrier protects your belongings?

Well you are simply WRONG!

I contracted for an Interstate move with North American Van Lines (aka SIRVA) in 2014.

They lost and damaged 32 items listed on my Contract (Bill of Lading).

I had purchased Zero Deductible, Full Replacement Valuation Insruance coverage through North American prior to my interstate move - the terms of this coverage were stated in the SIRVA brochure and were not unclear - if North American lost or damaged my belongings, North American Van Lines insurance protection would pay to repair or replace the lost or damaged items.

I filed a claim with photo documentation taken while the moving crew was present, called the carrier to report the damage while the crew was present, and noted the damages on my Bill of Lading before the crew left.  My claim totalled $3,946.00 for lost and damaged items.  Three months later received a check from North American for $191.03.  No explanation provided.

Eventually I filed complaints with North American Van Lines, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Indianna State Bureau of Insurance, the Florida State Attorney General's Office for fraud, my Congressman, Patrick Murphy's office, and two BBB offices.

Nothing can be done to assist.....because in the Federal governments' effort to "get out of business", INTERSTATE TRANSPORT IS NO LONGER UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE FEDS!  So nothing short of interstate lawsuits can be done to help consumers who are victim of the fraudulent business practices of interstate movers such as North American Van Lines.

If you find yourself involved in an Interstate move - be afraid, very afraid!

It is time for a class action lawsuit, or a change back to the previous Federal laws governing Interstate moves.

They are ripping me off right now TOO

AUTHOR: Karen - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 18, 2015

North American Van Lines took my stuff into storage because the driver coudn't make it on the load dates...so they said. They Loaded my stuff in a small truck on July 29 2015 and took it to local moving storage. As of today AUG 18..it is STILL sitting there!  The delivery window was Aug 1 - 12. They tell me daily that they have a driver shortage and cannot assign a driver to move my stuff yet....I have to wait until a drive becomes available...no new delivery window, just a daily email telling me: no drive available today to assign, maybe tomorrow.  I have filed complaints with BBB, FMCSA and AMSA. Still my stuff sits. And they charged my credit card for the move on July 29! They have refused to reduce the price for the horrible service,,,,the assistant to the president Cindy Balestra (CEO Bill Lyons) told me their job is to transport belongings from point a to point b and they don't promise "when" the items will be delivered. I have been treated like crap. They are rude and unprofessional and should not be in business. Here I still sit with none of my belongings and no help to resolve this crap!
