Please note that the owner of Northern Aire Industry is running a business that is not only shady but also harmful to every citizen who is out there trying to get a job. The following was my encounter with norther Aire.

In the middle of August, I answered the employment adveritisement of Northern Aire Industry and was told that I was hired on the same day. Together with me were 12 other young job seekers. The next day we were herded inside a room with a big TV screen and were shown how to sell the two HMI products, the Majestic and the Defender, which are high ended air filtration systems. Then after two days of intensive "training" we were packed off to sell the products to our friends and relatives,--they called that practice sessions. We were told we were required to sell the products from door to door right after that.

At that point, the owner of the outfit, Mitch, together with his Assistant Manager Joanne misrepresented a lot of information to the new recruits. At first we were told that as long as we were able to give a minimum of 3 demonstrations daily, we would be paid a base salary plus gas reimbursement. If we happened to sell an equipment, we would be paid a commission which was about 10 % of the item sold. We were under the impression that we were being hired as employees working for the company. That our job was to do demonstrations to customers that the company originally had.

The truth was, we were required to make cold calls and sell the products to total strangers who were foolish enough to believe they had won a prize with a lottery ticket devised by Mitch and Joanne. They were originally from Las Vegas and so they devised similar lottery scams familiar to them in their city of origin.

In addition, it was extremely difficult to do 3 demonstrations per day. They had never had enough customers for any of us in the first place. As a result, we were unable to meet the quota of 3 minimum demonstrations per day and we wound up not getting paid for our labor or gas. One must remember that gas price was sky high around August and we had to travel a distance of at least 120 miles daily to get to the so-called customers.

What was even more blatantly set up to fool the new recruits was that they were asked to sign a contract agreement identifying themselves to be independent contractors. The owner Mitch never told us we were meant to be independent contractors. Had he told us the truth the first day, many would have quit right there. So the entire racket was a terrible scheme and they cattle-called a bunch of job-seekers exploiting their labor and time to go everywhere selling the products to their own friends and relatives. We never got paid after we had perform the demonstrations. I actually sold two pieces of equipment during the two weeks of selling but was only paid a shameful commission of $50.00, in addition to $20.00 gas money.

My advice to all job seekers who had answered the ad of Norther Aire Industry: Please open your eyes wide and watch out for this gang of thieves! They are taking advantage of the good names of Filter Queens and HMI to set up schemes and scams from time to time. What is more , they hide behind the Better Business Bureau membership to ensnare innocent job seekers. Don't fall into their trap! My name is Mr. A and I live in Bloomington. Write me a email: (((REDACATED FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) if you want to find out more about this shady business.
