Was charged $7935.00 for new vinyl windows 4-years ago. The salesman told us we would save at least 50% on heating and was told that all the framing including headers and cryps would be replaced. There has been no noticable decrease in power consumption and the only woodwork that was done was a cheap trim job around the windows. We were quoted $3200 by another company to replace the windows without doing the reconstruction the other salesman had quoted so we went with the higher amount under the assumption that major replacement of the structure would be done.

The installers showed up while the rain was pouring down with temperatures in the 40's and immediatly started removing the old windows. Water was running down the walls and puddling on the floors. It was a nightmare. The work was completed in 2 days.

Imediatly there were 6 windows out of 11 leaking. They sent the installers out to repair the leaks. We had numerous leaks still and after the 4th time calling the company the person I was talking to on the phone told the supervisor and I heard him tell her to tell me that it was a maintenance problem and it was my problem not his. I was also told that I had signed the contract with them and the way it was written none of the inner structure was to be replaced (I claim being gullible). So I figure I was out of luck.

I met a buddy at a chain hardware store this morning to pay for material he would use to repair water damage to my floors and we took a stroll down the vinyl windows isle, I was shocked to learn I could buy the windows I need at todays prices for about $1500. My buddy (an ex general contrator) told me the job could have easily been done for around $2200.

I filed bankruptcy last year and learned the loan company had a fixture clause and that they would come take the windows out of our mobile home if they weren't paid. We are still owing them around $5000 and have been making payments still. My wife recently lost her job and with my disability payment as the only income we will not be able to continue paying and don't know how long it will be until they come take our windows. We have paid around $4000 so far.

I don't know what can be done but at least appreciate being able to vent on this site.

Thanks for letting me post.

My answers to you are below your comments.

YOU SAID:

Here is the Scoop. The salesman should have told you that you would save at least %35 on your heating bill. I find it hard to believe that he told you 50% because we (sales) would get our buts kicked if not fired for lying about information. Now in many cases we see a savings of MORE thany 50% but we guarentee 35%. So I think that maybe you heard what you wanted to hear. You heard the possibility of %50 and forgot about the %35.

I SAY:

I have nothing wrong with my hearing and neither does my wife. The salesman told me our aluminum windows were the main loss of heat. I heard exactly what your slick salesman wanted me to hear.

YOU SAID:

Now if you did not notice any savings on your power bill than your Trailer, or mobil home walls must be built out of Card board. Not much we can do about that bud.

I SAY:

Our Glenwood mobile is fully insulated. Metal exterior and wood interior (recently replaced with sheetrock.)

YOU SAID:

Now you say that the work was completed in 2 days and you make it sound like a water fall was falling into your house the whole time because they ripped out all of your windows at once. You and I both know that was not the case.

I SAY:

It was a nightmare. You are telling me that is not the case? You must be related to your salesman or trained by the same person. The main installer started on the front window and told his helper to just start taking the windows out. It was raining heavily and water was running across our floors. You may wish that was not the case.

YOU SAID:

You say that after you called for us to come out and replace a leaky window that someone said it is a maintinance problem and that it is your responsibility.

NO MATTER WHAT GOES WRONG, you have a 3 year Labor warranty. As well as a lifetime product warranty. If they told you it was your issue to deal with, than you should have called a lawyer.

I SAY:

I wish now that I had called a lawyer.

YOU SAID:

As far as your 11 windows from your local "Chain" hardware store for $1500...That is BOGAS. I know what they cost. And besides that, the "Chain" hardware stores are selling you Builders grade built on a jig windows. Now do you think that when a builders is putting togeather a house that he goes out an buys the most effeciant, best quality window that he can find. Heck NO! he will put in the cheapest thing he can find from Home depot so that he has more money in his pocket at the end of the build. Plus...What was the warranty on those windows.

I SAY:

Your installer himself said the custom windows were ordered from Lowes the same store I was in. I also called Mount Vernon Building Center gave them my dimensions and their top-end vinyl windows would have cost $2178.

YOU SAID:

You recieved Custom made windows for each opening in your house. You recieved Lifetime warranty on the product and 3 year labor warranty.

YOUR "Buddy" told you that Home depot windows plus install would be $2200. That is $700 for labor. Did your buddy ever count in the fact that it would probibly take him a week to intall them. Did he take into fact the man hours that it takes to pull the old windows out, the cost of dumping the old frames and glass as well as the cost of install. Probibly not.

I SAY:

What cost for dumping the old frames? You mean the pile they left in my yard? At least it was under $30 to take them to the dump.

YOU SAID:

So for $2200 you would have nasty old windows with no warranty and a pile of old windows and frames in your back yard wright now. YOU GET what you pay for.

NWPL has the opportunity to put windows into your home and allow you to make payments on them. We have two opptions. #1. an unsecured loan. This loan is just like buying a car. You have good credit and show that you pay your bills and we will loan you money to put new windows in your home

Now if your credit is awfull we go to option number 2. A secured loan. You signed the documents that stated you were barrowing from the equity of your home/land. Dont try to make it sound like this was a hidden fact.

By seeing that you filed for bankrupcy you probibly were aleardy over your head, and the only way they would pass the loan was through a home equity loan. We would be out of business if we allowed people to install our windows then file bankrupcy and never pay us. Bankrupcy is the easy way out.

Last but least you said they sold you windows for $7900. You owe $5000 but you have paid of about $4000 already. How does that work out. Does not sound like honest math to me.

I SAY:

Ever heard of interest? That's how the loan outfit makes their money. That is how that works out!!!

YOU SAID:

Bud, it sounds like you and your wife are going through hard times now. I feel for you, but before you come to the net to bash a fantastic company that is on the honor roll with the BBB you should have your facts togeather.

I SAY:

Don't you have spell check?

YOU SAID:

I hope all gets better for you and that as time passes this anger will too.

I SAY:

The anger is gone. I know I was ripped off and count it as another lesson learned.

I SAY:

I could also add more pictures if you want to show the lovely patch jobs they did to try and stop the leaks.

Like I said I am no longer mad. I just learned a lesson.

First I can believe that a sales man would tell you that you would save 50% with the new windows. It just depends on how you look at it, After all you have a mobile home and the new windows will save you 50% OF WHAT your old windows were making you spend.

Your windows SHOULD NOT have been put in when it was raining (hard to do in Washington) and yes I do know what I'm talking about, I just moved from Centralia, WA. And I did install windows before I moved.

As to your buddy (an ex general contractor) tell him the next time the two of you are walking down the vinyl window isle to take out his tape and check the size of the windows. The one in the pic. Is a 46 X 39 and ONLY ONE hardware store in the state of Washington has them in-stock and that one is V.J.'s Bargain Barn in Rochester Wa. 800-600-6903. and next time you need something for you mobile home go to a place that has the right parts. And yes you did pay to-much for the windows.

Now as an ex general contractor myself all I can offer is to tell you to go after their bond.
You have 1 year after the work is done to do this. They are responsible for the workmanship and if you have water damage then they have to fix it, That is part of their BOND
