http://www.numberonemusic.com/ Bill's itself as a promotion site for musicians and bands. I took their free membership and tried it out. The company allowed for song and video promotion. I used the song promotion and a week of promotion for my video. The numbers that returned looked amazingly good. It was all a sham.

A few detail will make the picture come to life. For the first part, my 4 songs listed went immediately to the number 1, 2, 4, and 24th chart position on their charts. I instantly had people loving my song and sharing my song on FaceBook. At first it was very exciting. The second part of the scam is the video, whereby I posted a video with their promotions. The video received 1300 views in one week. This was another really exciting breakthrough. 

Then the letdown happened. I decided to do a little checking. In the first week my mailing list had 60 but not one of them was on facebook. I sent an email out to all of them thanking them for being on my list and I also asked if anyone of them have heard anything good or bad about numberonemusic. I also asked them to send back some kind of note so that I would know if the list was really reaching anyone. So far, nearly a month later, not one of them ever got back to me.

So I checked the mailing list names against facebook and didn’t find any of those names listed on facebook that matched both the name and city listed in my list. Next I checked to see where my songs were getting posted. I could not find my songs on those pages that posted me because they had THOUSANDS of posted songs as if a computer robot had been pasting them about every few seconds. The last thing I did was to check my statistics on my youtube where my video was. All but a dozen or so of my viewings were from Russia. The rest were from my own town where people know me.

So again I thought, well hey! I can pay for the premium plan ($199.95) and for that much money I could get a serious boost in ratings. Even if they were not real people watching my videos, the stats would push them much higher in the ratings and who doesn’t like to have thousands of views a week showing up when you go out to get gigs!

I went ahead and paid my $199.95 to start the service. I uploaded an entire CD and a few songs from another CD. Then I went to promote a video and a little sign popped up saying Please wait 30 days before you promote a video.

Part of the plan you get at $199.95 is premium first priority support – it says that in their bundle package price details. I really wanted those videos of mine to show numbers so I went to their chat window. I started a chat. 10 minutes later I was still waiting for a response. An hour later I tried again, no response. I sent several messages, no response. 3 days later I realized that I only had 27 days until my videos were supposed to be able to be promoted but with no guarantee I opted to cancel the credit card payment in a dispute. Credit cards usually only allow 30 days to dispute a charge. That video promotion thing was set up to make sure you’d wait until it was too late. Besides, the subscription was for a year and I didn’t want to give up 1/12 of what I was paying for even if they ever did come through.

After about 20 honest tries to get in touch with someone at the site, even with my priority support, not one response ever came back. This company has a great scam going. It is hard to tell it is a scam and it rewards you with huge numbers that look like you should hold on tight and make it work. All of it is a lie. They have computers robots working full time. The musicians there are sharing songs a little bit but that won’t do anyone any good. This site can’t provide anything of worth to anyone if most of what you get in numbers is faked. The video robot seems to only work in the first free trail period with a free membership so that you’ll think the site is great. The system can obviously only handle so much traffic or they would let you promote your video right away.

It is sad the site doesn’t work the way it is advertised. It is well put together and looks great. It had me fooled, at least for a while.
