NY Moving and Storage, including all employees and the owner, need to be put out of business.  They cannot be trusted to pack, disassemble, ship, deliver or reassemble household goods.  The entire process from start to finish was armature at best, and criminal at worst.

The quote was a low ball offer, the contract was a form letter purposely vague.  When asked to clarify and document verbal agreements, it took two or three iterations working with Roselyn and/or Mike depending on who wasn't "sick" that day.

The quoted cubic feet and weight of goods was accurate and confirmed by three different visual estimates done by other companies, yet they did not bring a truck large enough to fit our belongings, or enough packing material.  Within 5 minutes of being in the home they informed us that the quote was too low and they would have to charge us double what was quoted.  But, since Carl was such a nice guy he would give us a flat rate quote and he could guarantee that it would be no more than $8,000 to pack and move all of our things.

Every room we went into he asked do we need to take all of this?  Can we leave this behind, or are you sure you need this?  He also said we would have to pay cash, or pay an additional 7% to use a credit card, when the contract clearly stated that the pick up charge would be 50% and paid by credit card.  About 1/2 way through packing Carl started asking if I know where he could go to buy additional boxes, bubble wrap and tape since they were running out because we had so much stuff.

They started wrapping items in toilet paper, and old rags and towels we had laying around.  As I found on the delivery end, they actually packed many boxes with any packing material at all.  They also used packing tape on raw wood, which in the end ripped off the finish on antiques.  They used a valuable silk rug to wrap a leather sofas, which in the end was damaged beyond repair.

After 8 hours of packing the house and truck we had to throw away one whole bedroom and give away our porch furniture because the truck was full and they could not come back with another truck without charging another $3000-$5000.

In spite of the ordeal, we paid extra cash and tipped the crew.  We were then informed that the tip was too little, and just not worth the effort.  How rude!  It was then that Carl informed me that there was no way that we would see our furniture in Arizona on 7/3 or 7/4, as promised by the person who scheduled the job.

The next day I called the office and talked to the owner who told me that I should call back in 7-10 days to find out when they could deliver our furniture since it was the 4th of July weekend and he had no one to drive during the holiday.  He then told me if I didn't like answer he would deliver my furniture back to me in PA any time I wanted.

After 7 days I again contact the office only to be hung up on, put on hold, yelled at for assuming that they had any control over when I would get my things, and told that "by law" they had 21-30 days to deliver it.  Eventually they gave me the phone number for the driver of the truck who told me he was in Indiana and would call me when he got close.  Ultimately we waited 21 days for our things to be delivered.

We contracted for a full pack and ship, which include unpacking and reassembly of our furniture.  The crew was understaffed and immediately started to try to round up additional help.  They couldn't find anyone.  They unloaded the furniture, and started to try to reassemble it, but hardware was missing, and in some cases the damage was so severe they didn't want to get involved.

The crew who reassembled some of our pieces used incorrect hardware, and caused further damage so we asked them to leave.  In the end there are thousands of dollars worth of damage and almost ever piece we own is ruined.  I've lost glassware, chine, antique furniture, and am spending hundred and hundreds of dollars to try to repair what I can.

When I tried to file a claim with NY Moving & Storage Corp., I was unable to get a return call, leave a message, or email pictures as their email and voice mail boxes are full.

Do not use this company under any circumstances.

Let Me See If I Understand This?

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 31, 2011

You invited three legitimate moving companies to your house at their expense, and then after gathering the fruits of their work, you then seriously chose to go with a moving company that didn't come to your house prior to the move?  It's like inviting a contractor to come to your house to build a deck, get a complete quote for all materials and labor, and then decide to hire someone to build the deck who didn't come to see what was needed, but just decided to quote you a price you liked.  You engage in throughly unethical and immoral behavior, and then want to claim ripoff?  Maybe the three moving companies who came to your house should be claiming ripoff against you??

You said you contracted for a full-service move, right?  That begins when the mover comes to see everything you're supposed to move.  BY your own admission they didn't come so you didn't pay or contract for a full service move.  There's a reason why those other firms quoted you a higher rate; it's because they offer a true full service move.

So what are your options??  None really.  You'll get paid on your claim at $0.60 per pound, and even if they pay on the claim, it won't be much.  You won't be able to get a lawyer and sue because moving companies have special federally established rights in court your lawyer can't penetrate.  You can complain to the FMCSA or the DOT but they have exactly three people in the entire government that oversee the thousands of interstate moves that occur in the country.

Your situation, unlike others who get ripped off by movers, is not so sympathetic.  You had a chance to do this right.  Instead, you decided to trust your valuable possessions to someone based on the lowest price.  Moving is not an inexpensive venture and choosing a mover based on price will cost you far more than if you had simply paid a reputable mover the price they quoted you.
