It all started when I wanted to make some money in the summer. I'm a college student, and I needed a summer job.

Being Jewish, many of my friends told me that that working in the moving industry makes easy money. easy IS the word here.

I knew the bad reputation moving companies have. Controlling about %90 of the market in NY area (and don't let them make you think they're not !!!), Owners of moving companies are known to rip off their customers - and employees.

Now, I didn't want to take part in both, but I found this little company that looked honest (the look is important, for them) and decided to give it a try.

ALL the moving companies have salesmen who are paid mostly according to what they sell. If you don't sell, Don't expect to survive the month, If you're a good salesmen, the limit is far away. (Without mentioning that the boss/owner will be on top of you making sure your ear is attached to the telephone.

That was just some background.

In the beggining everything looked honest. The owner was not talking about how he calculates the price, and made sure to say that he's trying to be honest because his name is important to him, that his company does not have any complaints, that unlike other companies he won't give a very low estimate and than jack it up.

Do you really think it was true ?
No.

The company I worked for was just trying to make it look this way. ALL of them do.

Here are some interesting facts.

- In time I learnt that the owner has a nice concept. They work with the customer and talk to him nice, and they give him a a price. With every customer I booked, He said "Don't worry, book it, we'll figure out later where to put charges". With this company, you will NEVER pay the estimate. There will be x fee, y fee, all "proven" to be legitimate, but actually, not. it is never "in their hands".

The company always claims (they call it, small lies) that they have offices nationwide (which is not, they have only one)

That those "orange trucks" you see all over the city are theirs (and they don't even own one truck), that they have "weekly sales to every destenation you'll say (try it on the phone) but they actually don't have ships, the shipping companies themselves have sales, and not weekly sometimes, that it takes 3-6 weeks in the sea to deliever your goods (where actually they wait until they have a full container to fill, and if not, they will come up with blaming the american custom for the delay)
If you'll call and pick any place to ship your goods, they'll always tell you "I just had a large shipment to.. the nearest city around"

They claim that they don't have to be listed on the BBB since the BBB is "local" and their "international". What ?!

And all of my customers, unfortuantlly I had to discover, were never charged according to the estimate the company gave them. It is always, always, a LOT more. ALL kinds of "legitimate" fees.

At this point customers called me, and asked for answers. It was about a month and a half after I stared to work.

And you know what?

They money may be good, but I'm going to live in this country, and I don't have to risk my name for a few thousand dollars. Even if I'm a student.

When I brought it up to the owners, they were mad enough to bring exuces why not pay me.

So not only they ripped customers off, they tried ripping me.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!
