Trying to get my security deposit back from Oaktwin and Anna is like a second job. They lie to you, tell you the check was mailed out, don't call you back and then are indignant when you call them out.
I have been calling them since September trying to get my security deposit back. On at least four occasions I was told it was sent. When I finally spoke with Anna she told me no one would have told me that. She seemed to think it wasn't an issue that three months after moving out that I would be wondering where my security deposit was. Unless you are really desperate I would stay away from them. If you do rent with them I would advise that you don't pay your last months rent so you have some leverage when you are trying to get them to even return your call.

Post dated check received

Finally a post dated check has been received. Yesterday we received a check in the mail from Oaktwinn. The check was dated 12/17 but however the postal stamp on the envelope was Jan 2. Not unexpected. Hopefully it will clear. Thank you ripoff for helping me move this along and also sharing this experience with others.

Still no check after 92 days and bold statements about how we have been paid

Despite Anna's claims that we have received our security deposit back we have not. Interesting how my last post didn't get a reply from Anna. Will have to pursue legal steps which will end up costing me more than the deposit. Like I said hold back your last payment if you have to go with them.

Still No Check - Day 85

The lies continue. Despite Anna's claims we have still not received a check from Oaktwinn. We thought that maybe it was in the mail after her rebuttal here. To be clear, we returned the keys in early October to this apartment. Obviously this is the case as in Oaktwinn's own words they were closing out our file prior to Sandi which was at the end of October.. Would any company really do that if they didnt even have a key. I only spoke with Anna once and that was in December.
I will everyone posted.

SECURITY DEPOSIT
AUTHOR: Annakali - (United States of America)

I first would like to say that this statement is completely false. Oaktwin Property Management has never held the security deposit for this tenant. This tenant surrendered the keys to this apartment on December 11, 2012. Upon inspection of the unit we had to remove a washer and dryer that were in the unit that were not supposed to be there. I advised the tenant that either they remove it or we will remove it a fee. At there request we removed the washer and dryer. In the middle of closing out there file and requesting the security deposit from the owner our office was completely flooded and everything was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. I advised tenant of same and explained to her that it would take me a little longer than the 30 days allowed by law to get her the security deposit. The person writing this complaint is not even on the lease. I have tried on a few instances to speak to him like a logical adult and it seems impossible with him! He has started cursing and acting irrational. We have a portfolio of over 125 properties and have never had a complaint from any of the tenant's and there security deposits being returned on a timely matter. The security deposit for this tenant has been returned.
