I WISH WE HAD READ THIS REPORT BEFORE WE DECIDED TO GO WITH OAKWOOD HOMES.

We bought our first home, a singlewide Oakwood home in 1995 from the Eden, NC sales center. We got one straight off the lot because we couldn't wait. We got decent service and got the things that were promised. That home was OK for the moment, but we have now out grown it.

We started looking to buy a new Double wide from Clayton Homes in Reidsville, NC. After the salesman wasted our time for two weeks, we told him to forget it. That should have been our wake up call. But, we went back to where we bought our singlewide, Eden, NC.

The salesman we purchased from before had moved on, so we did business with the salesmanager. He was very nice about everything but the process was slow. Another wakeup call...

But we wanted a newer, bigger home, at an affordable price.

Our house finally arrived on October 6 and 7. It is now November 28 and we still aren't able to live in it. We have found problem after problem ever since it has been set up. Vents in the wrong places (lenolium and carpet had to be replaced when they were removed or replaced), trash under the lenolium (we have three layers of flooring in our kitchen), sub-flooring not nailed to joists, plumbing connections not tightened which caused a slow leak (carpet and subflooring got wet), sheet rock that shows screws through and uneven, every joint in the ceiling shows ( were told that every home does that), a board on the roof was overlapping and they just put the shingles right over it.

Something that was supposed to take no more than three weeks to get into has now turned in to 9 weeks. We have not closed on this house and do not plan to until we seek counsel from an attorney. We have pictures and notes of all the poor workmanship. We have had the plant manager out here once to see the problems, and the productions manager out her three times.

My husband has to stay here everyday to make sure someone is here doing their job, not to mention, making sure they do it right.

We are only trying to get what we are paying for, A NEW 1 st QUALITY HOUSE, not a SALVAGE HOME.
