Do not use Billi Lawrence and Nancy Haugsness of Obie's Chinese Cresteds. This is a mother/daughter handling team from Atchison, Kansas. Both women claim to be professional AKC dog handlers and proclaim 11 years of experience in breeding, showing, and handling Chinese Crested dogs.

These horrific women were recommended to me when I was looking for a professional Handler to show my boy, Strider. Looking at their website I am now ashamed to admit I was impressed. I had several conversations with Billi on the telephone and thought I could trust her and her Mother, Nancy to show my Dog. I paid over a thousand dollars to these two women in prepaid show entry fees that they stole from me with out ever training or putting a single point on my dog.

In late October of 2008 I sent my Dog Strider to Billi and Nancy to show in the AKC circuit. Little did I know what a nightmare I was sending my baby to live in at Obie's Chinese Cresteds. Within two weeks after arriving at Billi's home they called me and stated that they believed Strider had diabetes". He was drinking lots of water and to both Nancy and Billi that was a sure sign of being a diabetic.

I asked them to take my boy to their vet ASAP. Billi called and made an appointment for the next day. Waiting on pins and needles for the telephone call from them to let me know if my baby was sick was all I could think about the entire night and next day. At 6pm the next evening Billi called me and informed me she had slept all day and missed Strider's appointment. She assured me she would call the next day and make another appointment.

Meanwhile I was so upset that my baby may be very sick and was hundreds of miles away from me. Well Billi never did take Strider to the vet or mention it to me again. That was the big red flag that told me something was not as it seemed with these two women.

Billi informed me Strider was adjusting well and that she liked him so much she was interested in breeding him to one of her females. As of Christmas December, 2008 I had not received any updates or photos of my boy and they had took a month off from showing. When my friend received a show win photo of her Dog whom was emaciated I started calling Billi and Nancy daily requesting photos of my boy.

After several requests to see a photo of my boy because I had become worried about his condition Billi and Nancy became angry and felt they did not have to deal with demands from clients. I don't think wanting to see a photo of my Dog so that I know he is being well cared for was being demanding and felt I had every right in doing so.

By this time I was really worried about their lack of concern for my more then reasonable requests and feared that they were not taking care of my boy and demanded he be sent home immediately. Billi and Nancy canceled two scheduled flights and finally on the third flight my boy came home.

On Jan. 28, 2009 my worst fear came true when I picked Strider up from the airport. He came home to me in terrible condition. He had Staph Blisters on his body, several of his toenails bleeding from a fungus on all four of his feet pads. He was covered in urine and feces and what was left of his once beautiful tail was matted in filth and had chunks cut out of it.

He stunk something horrible and it was clear he had not been bathed since he left me.They sent my boy back in this pitiful condition and he had to endure several hours on an airplane to arrive home frozen without any clothing or bedding to keep him warm in the dead of winter.

He walked with a limp for several days because he was in pain. I can not imagine what type of nasty environment he must of been kept in considering how he smelled and looked when he arrived at the airport. He also had flea feces embedded in the hair growing on his ears.

My vet said it would take months to get his ears in shape not to mention the medicine he must take to get his skin well. Billi and Nancy emotionally and physically abused my boy. These two horrible women are liars and should not be allowed to even own a Gold Fish.

Please don't let another Dog suffer at the hands of Billi Lawrence and Nancy Haugsness of Obie's Chinese Cresteds. I have before and after photos and would like to ask for every one's help to spread the word about these women. Please contact me by email through my web site for a copy of my vet reports and photos.

(((link redacted))). My worst fear is they get another innocent Dog to abuse.

I made an attempt at contact through the Trinity Chinese Crested's website after I submitted my revious post and none of the links for the email seem to work? I was attempting to request the opportunity to view the documents and items stated. Is it possible to maybe even post them on a page on your site or something?

There have been 4 reports filed recently, 2 on the 9th, one on the 15th, and one on the 17th. Are there any others before this you could direct me to? Are there any unrelated people who have sent their dogs to this handler and had major issues before these recent reports? I notice that some of your dogs were bred by some of the other people filing these reports.
First of all, had this handler shown any of your other dogs prior to this situation? Was she CH. Spiderman's handler? Did your dog not win any points because he was not shown? If so, why?
Yes, excessive drinking of water can be a sign of diabetes. Is quite often the first clue. Was your dog ever tested? Is he okay? I can understand being anxious and wanting to know. However, was there something that happened or a conclusion come to about this that isn't mentioned? There is something missing here concerning this particular issue I think. Too many questions here. There is also the fact that they later asked to use him as a stud? Your dog was still in their possession and care as of christmas. There is at least a two month gap here in which your dog is still in their care and you are in communication. It was when your friend receives a show win photo that you decide to have your dog sent back? No, asking for photos is not unreasonable and you should have got them and it would be VERY concerning. But could they have been becoming a little frustrated with the situation at this point? There is more going on than just the situation with your dog and several people who know each other are all coming at them from every direction at this point.
There is also a question of the show win photo(s) which apparently is involved somehow in most of these reports. How would a dog that is in such horrible condition (this is one of the things specifically evaluated) win or even do well in a conformation show? How would a handler (they ARE a factor in wins) whom is constantly showing dogs in horrible condition which are known to be in her care have alot of wins? If there is a general concern of poor care (like starvation issues) by a caregiver it would most likely be noticed in the show circuit and would bring up concerns about the caregiver I would think. Why would any organization promote this poor care by allowing dogs in such condition to place and to be photographed and published?
Was cancelling the flights home due to weather issues?
I am not saying I believe anyone to be wrong or right. I'm just asking for some clarification on the statements and situations and wondering if there may be something else behind these reports considering several of the factors involved. *just my opinions*
