My husband and I are planning a weekend getaway to San Diego- I called the Ocean Villa Inn Motel, and spoke to a very nice young man named Adam. I told him we'd be checking in about 8PM on the Friday and leaving around 6:30-7PM on Sunday. I asked him if there were any discounts, like AAA he said yes and charged me $75 x 2, Fri and Sat, and half-a-day at $32.50 for Sunday, since we weren't spending the night. (Plus tax.) I said I wasn't ready to book yet, and asked for a confirmation code or something for when I was ready to call back w/a cc #. He said I wasn't in the computer, and just call back with the info and say Adam quoted me a half day for Sunday.

I called back 2 days later and spoke to an incredibly rude girl named "Kelly." She started to quote me full price all 3 days and was very rude when I told her about the quote from Adam and the AAA discount, saying. "Well, how do I know you have AAA?" She spoke poorly of Adam when told he quoted the half day price for Sunday.

I had also told Adam that I was traveling with a small service animal, (10 lb dog) and had all the appropriate paperwork. Adam did not try to charge me for the service animal. Kelly told me it would be extra per night and when asked if she was famiar with the law that makes this illegal she said yes. She was then again rude and told me that I must bring a "Certificate" for the service animal to not be charged the extra money. I told her I had all the appropriate paperwork and she said "All the service animals I've ever seen have "Certificates." (There is no mandatory "Certificate" for a service animal, just proper documentation from a doctor.)

I asked her if there was going to be any problems, because it sounded like there were going to be. I told her I was not going to give my cc info if there was going to be any headaches or problems, because this weekend is special. She assued me their wouldn't be any problems, and to make the reservation. She said "I'm sure my manager will approve the half day." (for Sunday) and to just go ahead and give her the cc # and everything would be fine. (I'm too tolerant. I figured, it's Friday night- she's young- she's stuck working- she's pissed off and in a bad mood, whatever- and just made the reservation.)

But the next day (today) I just didn't feel right. I called back, Kelly answered the phone and I asked for Adam. I wanted to confirm everything was OK with my reservation because I really want the weekend to go smoothly and I just didn't trust her. She said he wouldn't be in until Monday, (She had also told me her manager wouldn't be in until Monday.) I know she recognized my voice.

She called me back apprx. 3 hours later and told me her manager would not honor the half day price. I told her to cancel my reservations and shred my cc info and she, VERY snotty, said "OK," and hungup the phone really fast.

I have no idea if she really spoke to her manager or not. I think she thought I was calling to complain about her?

It would have been VERY disasterous if my husband and I would have arrived late Fri night and she (working Fri night) would have done something to hassle us on our vacation. My fear was that she'd be rude and we'd end up staring our vacation off on a sour note or even leaving and having to find another place, and her trying to charge my cc for one night because I didn't cancel 48hrs in advance. (My husband would not have tolerated her rudeness the way I did.)

Aggh! All this just to stay somewhere for the weekend!

Save yourself the anxiety and plan to stay somewhere else!

Just a little FYI to save hopefully save others from possible headaches!
