I have two big complaints.
First, I have yet to find a legitimate job on Odesk, and that only seems to become apparent during the interview.
I had two interviews offered to me so far. One was a man named Chayo Briggs. He is studying for his Masters in International Business at the University of North Alabama, and wanted me to do his assignments. I am pretty sure that is against the college's rules.
The other interview that I was invited to required me to pay to register with another site before they would even talk to me.
Both of them attempted to hire me outside of Odesk, which Odesk is completely against, because then they don't get any money.
That is where my second problem lies: getting paid through Odesk. I wanted to sign up for direct deposit, and to do that, I needed to send them a W9 form. I don't have a scanner, so I have to fax it. The fax number on the site is 650-853-4103. Ii was disconnected, so I called and asked for another fax number, and they told me to fax it to 650-323-6719, which was not a fax at all. It rang, and it was a person, so I asked if it was Odesk and they hung up on me. I called again and they laughed and told me not to call. I was a bunch of thugs. I told them that that number didn't work and they insisted that it did... and then admitted that they weren't in the office.
Odesk is very unprofessional, unhelpful, lacks accountability, and is definitely a ripoff.
