Down in the Florida area we are Managed by an Individual who wears his emotions on his collar, without any professionalism. If Mr. Brent Atkinson who is the Florida area manager had ran the state with professionalism he could be the highest earner within Old American. But Mr. Atkinson is so self centered! He gives his agents either leads that have been ran by other agents who are no longer with Old American or he gives them leads that are so old that the consumer complain that someone from another insurance company came and wrote them up.
The reason I write this is blog is to bring awareness to future agents who are looking at being appointed with Old American. Brent and my self had a good thing in the beginning when I was first appointed in 2008. Things went South when I questioned Brent on several aspects of the leads. I chose to get off of his leads and generate my own down here in Miami since he could not provide leads for this area. After informing Brent of his misdeeds of the Leads he preceed to give me a higher contract since I was generating my own business without his help. Before any of that happened I asked Brent for Leads in the Miami, FL area which would have been great not only for me, but Old American and it would have put Florida on the map. The first blowup came when Brent and I had a disagreement, he cancelled my contract and put me in the systems with Old American owing the company over $1400 in leads commission. After being notified not by Brent Atkinson but someone from Old American that my contract had been cancelled, I called Brent and he reinstated me. His first sign of trickery came by bringing me back and having me hold the lead balance that he had put in place. After telling Brent I was not paying for something I did not use he cleared the debt that he had place on me. The 2nd sign of trickery came when I had an agent whom I not only gave a lead too, but it was a relative of mine who she was going to sell. The agent made the sell and was paid on behalf of the sell she made. After waiting several weeks I asked the agent if she was paid on the policy at hand, and she informed me she was.
Well I called commission to ask what happen to my share, and I was informed that Brent Atkinson who is the Florida area manager was paid my share of the business. Brent had no plans to pay me until I contacted someone in commission and informed them of what happened. Brent who paid me after receiving call but was very reluctant to give me my share of the commission that was due to me. That was the icing on the cake for Brent to have a total dislike of me! I personnaly did not care. He does not have to like me but he will respect me. Fast forward to October 2010 I received a letter that my contract with Old American had been cancelled. After calling corporate, I was informed that my unprofessional manager had cut my contract with Old American. This is where the unprofessionalism came in from Brent he cut my commission without communicating with me. I called Brent Atkinson on that matter! He did not answer his phone at all, I texted him and asked why was the commission cut he stated that I was not producing enough and since I was not producing enough he decided to cut the commission.
I told Brent that I would never produce another piece of business for Old American as long as he is in charge of Florida. I proceeded to tell him he will all ways be a personal producing manager and agents would continue to make Old American just a temp stop while they search other Final Expense companies as long as he is in charge. The moral of the story is just because you can produce does not make you management material Old American should have some kind of management class for incompetent people like him. As long as Brent is the manager here in Florida he will never be successful! After looking at the monthly magazines the company puts out. The more successful agencies in the company have company meetings. If he wanted a sucessful agency he needs to take pointers on there success. That way he can keep agents working the business and make Old American proud of the Florida area. This is a question that I have for David Poteet and his boss who I am waitning to get me a call from, if I had to depend on him I would be waiting until the sky turned pink. Why is it not that you do not have any African American managers? I see there were several agents who became agent managers for Old American this past summer! I did not see anyone that represent a person of color or African features. Since we tend to make more sells off of African Americans citizens why is it not someone of color representing your company in a sells management capacity. The managers that were bought in this past summer had either none or little experience selling life insurance.You have or let me rephrase that had several highly productive African Americans who were producing but was not given the chance to become managers.Tell me what's wrong with this picture. I know of one person who would have made a great manager Aaron Pitts what you do ran him away.
