My wife was overdrawn on her account by $2.43 (we still dispute this). We went in to the bank and spoke with Lisa Burke. She looked at the print out and assumed that it was our mistake. We never got an answer as to how the sccount was off by $2.

The bank charges $35 for an overdraft and $8 per day after the third day that that account is overdrawn. For someone who only gets paid every two weeks, these charges will total about $93 for a $2.43 overdraft. Lisa Burke was unwilling to provide any relief on the fees whatsoever.

This is a bank that has bought out several banks through the years. We now know how they got the money to become a monster bank. It should be noted that the interest on loan sharking is NEVER even close to 100 percent for two weeks. These charges come to about 3,827% for two weeks or about 99,507% annually. And people wonder why the country is on the verge of class war.

I urge all people to avoid this bank unless they have the money to keep a large cushen in their account. Even then, this should serve as a heads-up to check your balances carefully and look out for booby traps that could cost you dearly. It is apparent that this bank does not care one bit about the people or the community that made it rich. I also urge people to use every reasonable measure to deny them profit or cost them additional expenses. I will be making additional posts regarding legal ways in which people can accomplish this.

Old National is in a Class Action for this very reason

AUTHOR: Concerned Consumer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, September 28, 2012

Sweetnam LLC is suing Old National in a Class Action for the very thing this individual reported. Old National is still using reordering software to maximize their overdraft fees. Evidently they thought they could get away with it unlike the big banks. So for all of you bad mouthing the consumer get a life and go away. Consumer you should see if they are still taking class reps for the suit!

Doubtful

AUTHOR: Chad - (USA)

I seriously doubt you're completely blameless in this situation. Two dollars and change sounds like you may not have accounted for an ATM fee. I recommend looking at your last couple statements against your check register (you do keep a register, right?) and you should be able to find out for yourself where the money went or whether the bank really owes you. In any case, my experience with banks is that they're usually willing to waive a charge like that once, maybe twice. Not for repeat offenders though.

If you can prove you didn't overdraft, they should help you. If you are aggressive, insulting and calling them names, they're not going to be as helpful. No matter what, stay polite and reasonable when dealing with them. Good luck!

Thats a Lie

A bank will NEVER take small amounts out of your account to overdraw you and charge you fees. That is against the law. However, if you have a series of checks in one deposit and YOU don't calculate the total correctly, they will either add or subtract the difference from your balance once the checks clear.

As far as re-sequencing, those days are over. The big banks got lawsuits because of this a few years ago and they have updated their policies. DEPOSITS will post before debits which actually decreases your chances of overdrawing your account.

And yes, banks do charge to cash checks that are drawn from them but guess what??? YOU CAN AVOID THE FEE BY CASHING THE CHECK AT YOUR OWN BANK!!!!!!!! And most banks have ways that you can avoid getting monthly fees and other things waived if you meet certain requirements. Read the disclosures and stop whining.

Uneducated response

Did you not read the story? We WERE NOT overdrawn by $2.43. There is no explanation as to why we were charged that. I have used payday loans before and was never charged anything near 3,000%. Call me old fashioned, but I recall the day when banks made money by collecting interest on money that they loaned out. You obviously have an interest in the banking industry. Before you accuse someone of not being able to balance their register, you better educate yourself a little. Whether you want to admit it or not, banks always do crooked things like this to increase revenue. They deduct small amounts from an account that is not likely to be noticed by the customer, they jostle figures on the accounts of those who run close every week because they know that those people do not have the money to fight them. They re sequence check clearing to incur more overdraft fees. They use fine print and unilaterally change the terms of service to hook people. They charge to cash a check drawn on their bank. The list goes on and on. Too bad some people have nothing to do but troll web sites and post comments like yours just to feel powerful.

Let Me Get This Straight....

Old National Bank is the bad guy because you technically borrowed money from them and they charged you the necessary fees to do so? They are not at fault here.....a bank is a business that has to make money in order to operate and provide loans and interest to its consumers! They have no obligation to reverse any fees and unfortunately you have to pay what you owe..which is in the book of disclosures that they gave you when you first opened your account.
Don't badmouth the bank simply because you were unable to balance your checkbook register.
And your information about payday loans and loan sharks is false, by the way. You will typically pay much more than what was quoted and the consequences are worse. Payday loans hurt your credit score and usually result in an even bigger financial loss.

Something else to consider

AUTHOR: Shane - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 13, 2010

I have went over all of our transactions in question. I still do not think that we were overdrawn; however, let's assume we were. The first transaction that payday was a check for cash that posted immediatly on payday. The rest of the transactions were all debit card transactions that posted immediatly, as this was verified online. Now, if the final transaction did not have funds to cover it, why would it approve at the time of purchase? I know why, The bank has an interest in paying out $2.43 and charging nearly $100 in fees. If you were to google "old national bank" you will find the locations of their facilities in three states and the names and phone numbers of key personel. By the way, the final purchase was for $8.71. It is not like they were covering a house payment or anything like that.
