Three of the burners on my stovetop don't burn properly. The flame either turns on low or high. there's no gradation on the flame. The other problem is the igniters keep clicking and don't turn off when the flame is on high. I called Old Republic Home Protection Service. I had to pay $55 for the technician to come out, this technician is from a company called True Way Appliance. This person did a very cursory check on my stovetop. All he did was turned the burners on and off.  Then took off the burner caps and concluded the reason the igniters didn't turn off because someone poured oven cleaning fluid down this opening causing the ignitors to erode and malfunction. This was reported to the insurance company. They denied my claim of course because that constituted misuse.

I find this preposturous. First off, why would anyone pour cleaning fluid down the burners? I'd like to explain that my stove top does not have drip pans. Instead the stove top is one flat stainless steel top with four burners. The only way anything can get underneath the top is through that opening covered by the caps.  Other than that one only needs to wipe the stainless steel surface to get the stove clean. There's no way one can get underneath the burner without effort (ie unscrew the stove top and lift up the entire stove top - and there's no reasont do that either) - The technician from True Way appliance's assessment was utter speculation without any reasonable explination or even proper inspection of the appliance.

I then called Old Republic to complain about this. first they refused to give me the full report (i.e. something that would explain what the technician did and how he came to that conclusion). They told me to call True Way appliance for the report. I called and left several messages, they never returned my calls.  Old Republic also tell me to get my own technician to do an evaluation (an additional cost to me). After this will get a third party to do another evaulation and make the final decision.

As I explained, there was not a proper and careful inspection. He merely made a very rough guess. Old Republic did even try to help me with this at all. I'm very angry and bitter about this.  I would warn everyone I know and post on every consumer website I come across not to ever use Old Republic for their home warranty.
