Old Republic will not renew home warranty due to their contractors making an existing problem worse I had a leaky faucet for the only usable shower/tub in my home. Having a warranty with Old Republic for a few years, when I had a leak in the only usable tub/shower in my home a couple of years ago, I contacted the company.

I then was put through hell by Old Republic when the first plumber sent not only did not fix the leak, but managed to break the handle on my shower/tub so that I had to use pliers to turn the faucet on and off. Furthermore, he could not change the washer in a bathroom sink faucet. Old Republic sent other companies, one of which had to go through the wall on the other side of my bathroom to solder the pipes.

The first employee sent to do the soldering did not do so correctly so the pipes in the wall were leaking. I relayed these issues to Old Republic, which allowed me to choose a company I felt was responsible and reliable to fix the problem, after which Old Republic would reimburse me. This was about 11 plumbers and other contractors all together over a 4-month span.

Since I had not had to contact Old Republic for any reason this past year, I assumed I would simply receive my invoice to pay for another year of service.

When I didn't, I contacted the company and was told that they decided to drop me as a customer because for that period of that year, Old Republic had paid out more than I had paid over the time I was a customer. Isn't that what insurance/home warranties are for? If the first plumber had been able to easily fix the leaky faucet (which is leaking again) and not cause further damage, that would have been that.

I assume that Old Republic does not have a very large customer base if they can't afford to keep one person whose issues the home warranty co. contractors caused and cost more than I paid for that year. I never had a home warranty until I bought my current house because I didn't need one. Things were done properly the first time. People I hired knew what they were doing.

So, to summarize, Old Republic dropped me because their contractors caused problems that they didn't know how to fix. I'm guessing home warranties are like auto insurance; you pay and pay and pay for it and hope to not use it. For people who can repair everything themselves, I would not get a home warranty.
