On the weekend of December 25, 2004, our furnace devloped a carbon monoxide leak. I called Old Republic(I have had a policy for approx 5 years. They sent a contractor out who with out even looking at the furnace told me that either

1) it was not the furnace

2)we really didn't have a problem with the furnace or the best suggestion was that

3)we were opening our front door too often and that was the real problem. The contractor was not aware of the fact that after speaking with OR, I had called the gas company. The gas company had found that the carbon monoxide levels were extremely high in the house, tested all of the gas appliances and red tagged the furnace because it was the cause of the leak.

When I brought this to the attention of the contractor, he finally looked at the furnace, charged me extra to clean the flue and declared it to be in working order. Forty-five minutes after he left the alarms went off again. This was almost a month ago and OR has yet to get anyone out here to give what they call a "second opinion". The furnace was installed by an OR contractor in December 2000. It is still covered by the ten year warantee and they guarantee the work of the first contractor for thirty days. This is all supposed to be covered by the policy. The consumer reps at old republic have, for the most part been extremely unhelpful and rude. They have suggested that I use my fireplace to heat the house. We don't have a fireplace.

They have suggested that I have not reported the problem. At one point a rep. told me that they had no record of my calls. That story changed after I informed the rep that cell phone records show 800 numbers. I have been disconnected numerous times and told that supervisors will call, but they do not. Yesterday, I was given a complaint line number to call by a rep. They don't answer the complaint line. Now they tell me that I am responsible for finding a contractor. I pay for the plan so that they will provide the contractor. Another rep declared "We aren't going to sit with a phone book and call contractors." The OR reps keep asking me what I want them to do. My answer-Do what I paid you to do.

Get someone out here to fix my furnace! When you sit for hour after hour on hold when you call their company, you hear a bunch of B.S. about how they are helpful and professional , they are there to serve, they want the consumer to be satisfied. Don't believe it!
