Old Republic Home Warranty They did nothing but rip me off they will rip you off too. San Ramon California

I had a newborn baby and a 1 year old at home this winter when our heater went out. We had just placed our house on the market, and our agent signed us up for this plan.

Desperate to get the heating fixed ASAP, I decided to try Old Republic. Something in me told me not to, but I didn't go with my instinct. Old Republic sent out a technician to our home that I will not name here. Honestly, the tech was so scary looking I seriously almost didn't answer my door. I literally sat downstairs with my two babies beside the door with key in hand in case he ended up being crazy.

He came down after forever and said he wasn't sure of the problem so he tried something and if it didn't work - call him back. (Oh, he also used my cell phone 2 or 3 times because he didn't have one with him. I have no idea what it was for because he took my phone outside to talk. I have a feeling it was to tell his supervisor that he couldn't find the problem....hoping they could fix it over the phone without me knowing.)

Of course, it didn't work, so I called Old Republic back. I should NEVER have ever dealt with them again. However, I knew I had already paid a trade call fee and didn't want to have to pay someone else for the job Old Republic should have fixed. I confirmed with Old Republic that there would not be another fee on my end since the problem was never resolved. I also confirmed that the same guy would not be sent, because I did not feel comfortable having him back in my house. The operator with OR told me it would definitely be a different guy who could fix the problem.

The tech knocked on the door only for me to find that, in fact, it was the same guy who came the first time. Here we go again!!! After a long time, he came down and said that he actually found that we had a bad damper. He apologized for not finding it the first time and said he would not be charging me since it was his mistake.

He left. Old Republic called and said that, of course, they don't cover dampers and it will cost an additional $250 plus another trade call fee. My husband stepped in and called the contractors company direct and the supervisor told him there was no trade call fee on their end....it was simply Old Republic trying to charge an additional fee. I don't know what kind of education the operators have at Old Republic, but I can guarantee their education does not grant a $55 charge every time they pick up the phone.

Old Rep tried to tell me that Arctic Circle was charging the fee. I faxed over the receipt they had given me confirming that there was a fee of $0 charged on their end. Finally, Old Rep. called me back and admitted they were charging the fee for having to make a second phone call. This is one example of the dishonesty Old Republic has shown.....only admitting truth after I called their bluff.

The latest happened today when the operator from Old Republic told me she had spoken to my husband and he set up a 3rd appt with their contractor for Monday in order to get the damper fixed. I told her we already had someone else taking care of it and she said....no, your husband set up the appt. I called my husband who said he DID NOT make that appt. Honestly, I have never filled out a report like this, because I am not hot-headed by nature. However, I have a huge problem with a company that is not legit, ripping innocent families off!! I hope the $55 they are trying to charge me is worth the fight they are about to have.
