#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds
INCORRECT INFORMATION
AUTHOR: Concerned Consumer - (United States)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, February 15, 2018
What the complainant has stated is incorrect. Omnisure Group is a finance company that lends money to other companies and processes monthly payments for those companies’ consumers (similar to PayPal). Omnisure does not make outbound calls to the public or sell anything. Among their clients are companies that sell extended warranties on vehicles and home appliances. The sellers of those policies are the parties that call people to persuade them to buy the warranty. Admittedly some of those employees can be aggressive. A third party (the administrator) is who decides what claims are covered and pays for such claims.
Omnisure has no influence over the claims process, and have no authority to cancel a contract for anything other than non-payment. The important part that customers tend not to understand is the reason Omnisure shows up on their bank/credit card statement is once a customer purchases a warranty (by making a downpayment to the seller - not money Omnisure receives) and a contract is created, Omnisure sends funds in the amount of the full cost of the policy (usually 12-24 months worth of payments) to the sellers. Because of that, Omnisure cannot issue any refunds beyond the most recent monthly payment.
The only thing Omnisure is authorized to do to a contract (without the seller’s instruction) is to switch a customer from automatic billing (credit card/checking account) to manual (a bill in the mail). However, a client can place the customer back on automatic billing. Any refunds or cancellations have to be processed through the seller. Unfortunately, some of the sellers do make it difficult and confusing to cancel the contract. Customers are provided with this information upon purchasing their contract (in the form of a very thick booklet); however, most do not take the time to read it. They blame Omnisure Group because the sellers tend to make Omnisure’s info more prominent on the contact page (perhaps in an attempt to avoid responsibility) and because their monthly payments are made to Omnisure Group.
I understand the customer’s frustration, but it is directed at the wrong party. Most customers only call Omnisure once something has occurred that has made them angry (claim denied, etc.). When customers are angry and agitated, they don’t listen to the customer service rep, and often accuse the rep of giving them "the runaround”. There have been sellers in the past that Omnisure has ceased doing business with because of questionable practices, but Omnisure only finds out after, and cannot be held responsible for another company’s actions. I hope this provides some clarification.
