I've been having some trouble finding a full time job so after applying to 7-10 jobs through craigslist with no luck I decided to apply to an ad saying a fragrance wholesaler was hiring entry level manager and assistant manager positions. I figured I'd give it a shot so I called the number and left a message. About 2 hours later I received a call from a woman who we'll just call 'R'. That was when the red flags started popping up in my mind. She told me that all of the interview positions were full but she could squeeze me in at 3. The first red flag was that when she called me back asking me to come in at 3, it was already 2:15. She just wanted me to show up at the drop of a hat. Luckily the location wasn't too far from where I live and I was excited about the opportunity so I said I would be there.

When I arrived at the office it was in an area that was not that great. This was the second red flag. But I understand that real estate, especially for businesses is pretty rough and there are plenty of legitimate businesses that aren't in great areas. And once again I was still pretty excited about the opportunity so I let it go.

I walked into the office and their was music blaring and the office was not decorated as a professional business would be. Third red flag.

I showed up and filled out a "get to know you sheet" that had some pretty strange questions like what kind of car I drive, how I rate myself on a scale of 1-10. This was the fourth red flag but I just decided to fill it out anyway.

The fifth red flag was that while I was filling out the application I overheard 'R' on the phone with a man named Michael. She proceeded to tell him that all of their interview positions were full but she could fit him in around 4. The exact same thing she told me! And at the time she told Michael this it was 3! I honestly don't get the point of asking these people to come in on such short notice.

I walked into an office with 'R' and she began the interview. It was mostly just repeats of the questions that were on the "get to know you sheet" with some other random questions like what I like to do for fun and who my hero is. As well as some quick facts about the company. I've been in interviews where they asked pretty casual questions like this so I didn't see it as an issue.

The interview was quick. Only about 15 minutes. She told me to call at 4:50 to see if I had been selected to go on to the 2nd interview.

I called at 4:50 was very nervous, hoping I got to move on to the second interview because once again, I had been looking for work for a while with no luck and was excited about the prospect of work. Anyway, I called and she told me very excitedly that I had been selected to move on to the second interview, to dress "sharp" and bring a notebook and pen. I was so excited, that looking back now, knowing how excited I was, I feel silly.

The second interview was scheduled for the next day! Once again, short notice. I showed up dressed very nice and feeling excited. Me and about twelve other people went into a room that was blaring with music (sixth red flag). We waited for the manager to show up, who we'll call 'L' and when he did he was very unprofessional. Cursing, telling inappropriate jokes. This was the seventh red flag.

We then sat in these very uncomfortable chairs for 2 and a half hours with no breaks taking useless notes and listening to 'L' tell bad jokes and pointless stories. As well as talking about how great and rich Larry Hahn (the founder of Onyx) was and how great the manager who trained him is, whose name is Chris.

'L' then started talking about all the comments on Ripoff Report. How false they were, that we should ignore them, that Onyx was in the process of suing them for extortion, and how inappropriate the comments were. Seriously. The guy who had been making racist jokes and cursing throughout an interview was suddenly a defender of the people against inappropriate comments. Basically I just thought it was very strange that he had to make a point to tell us they weren't a scam.

By the end of the interview I was told to call at 5:16 to see if I had gotten the job. But I left with a bad feeling and no intention of calling them. I looked up some of the reports and a segment on 9news about the corporation and found out that the great Chris who trained 'L' has lied in many of his 2nd interviews about himself and Larry Hahn and he owes the state of Colorado almost $3,000 for not paying taxes!

I didn't call but 'R' called to let me know that I got the job but I turned it down.

Stay away from this company! They prey on people desperate for work!
