I got an email, apparently through Career Builder, that wanted me to place some ads in the newspaper for a company in France. I was a bit skeptical, but at the time I thought "what harm could it do?" So I gave them my address and thought I was in for some interview or somtehing.

Next day I get another email telling me they were sending me a check for $1399 and I would need to put it into my account and transfer some money. Red Flag!

At that point I decided to log everything I got from this place, and look into the domain names they were using and document the info I got from a "WHO-IS" search. It took a week and a half for the check to get here, and after a few days I was getting emails that were very desperate about why I hadnt reported receiving the check yet. Not to mention another email reporting that the amount of the check had been bumped to $2399 due to the need for 3 ads instead of 2.

Well the check got here, and I opened the envelpoe ecpecting to find some sort of conterfeit, or a photocopied check. But this thing is the real deal! Weel, the only true way to know about a check is to try and deposit it. So I did so, and waited to find out about it.

Well, long story short, it was a closed account and i lost about $5 in the end. Luckily I documented so much for my own safety, or I might be worse off than I am. I went to my bank with the info to show them that I had no prior knowledge of the fraud and they put my account into the right and I am a little wiser after this.

I have tried reporting this place to Career Builder, but I get no responses anymore, they want info but their email system doesnt allow me to send them what I have.
