"Valued Cardmember Since 2007" - yeah right!

I applied online for an Orchard Bank credit card to help build credit, and to have for emergencies. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

On May 17th, 2007 I applied for the Orchard Bank credit card online. It said that I was approved, however I would need to pay a $19.00 processing fee and I would then receive my card in 3-10 days. I agreed to what the screen said to have my card in 3-10 days.

On May 21st, 2007 I received an E-mail from Orchard Bank stating that I could now check my status online. I clicked on the link provided in the E-mail. It had me enter my social security number and zip code to check the status. But wait a minute. why am I checking the status on something I was already approved for, something that I had already paid for? This is when my views of this company went downhill. It said that I would have to wait 14 days that my application was under review.

Around May 28th, 2007 I called Orchard Bank, "which for the record the only toll free number I could find for them is for lost and stolen cards, the rest of the numbers are long distance....now thats a great company huh? I work for Duckwall ALCO Stores INC. We have less than 300 retail stores and we even have a toll free number." Anyway, I talked to a customer service rep who couldn't speak very good English.

I explained my situation to him and told him that I shouldn't have to wait 14 days for anything, I had already been approved and paid there company. He said that I would have to wait 14 days for them to make sure I didn't cancel my check for the $19.00. I told him that was almost two weeks ago, and they were credited the $19.00 the same day I applied for the card. He then told me to just be patient and wait 14 days for them to process and then 14 more for the mail.

On June 4th, 2007 I received an E-mail stating that I was approved. Well, duh I already knew that. So I called them again. This time they told me my card was mailed out on June 2nd. So I figured at the most it could take up to ten days.

On June 12th, 2007 I called the company once again. I still didn't have my card. They told me to just wait longer and eventually I would get it. Again I went through my situation with them. How I was led to believe I would receive a card in 3-10 days from the date I applied. They didn't offer to do anything for me. It was just like sorry for my bad luck.

On June 20th, 2007 I called AGAIN. By this time I was pretty ticked off. I told them I have the E-mail stating that my card was sent out on June 2nd. It had been 19 days since the day that they said it was sent. There was no reason for it to take this long. The lady that I talked to told me that they could cancel that card, reissue me a new card and send it 3-5 business day shipping. She said normally there is a $35.00 fee for this but they would waive that fee. So from this conversation I expected to have the new card around June 26th. That would be 5 days excluding the weekend which would make it longer.

On June 27th, 2007 I called the company again. by now this was like one of those things you just do when you wake up. I explained that the lady I spoke to last re-issued me a new card and that I was supposed to have it in 3-5 days. And like usual I waited longer and still didn't have it. He told me that they didn't send my card 3-5 days it was sent regular mail and that they aren't allowed to do things like that. So he pretty much said that the lady I talked to last time was a liar and she was just trying to pacify me. He told me that I should receive the card by Monday.

On July 2nd, 2007 I received a bill. After such a long stressful wait and dealing with people that can't speak the same language as me I was furious. How can they make sure I get a bill but never get either of the two credit cards they had issued me? I asked to speak with a supervisor this time when I called. The lady said she would transfer me, but all she did was hung up on me.

TODAY - July 4th, 2007 - Today marks the 49th day that I have waited to receive my card. I would not recommend Orchard Bank to anyone, not even my worst enemy. If I had the chance to do this all over again I would have researched this company before applying with them, and after reading everything about them I wouldn't have applied. I have put in a complaint with the better business bureau. Hopefully I will get some kind of a response from them.
