Orchard Bank & HSBC Secured Credit Card Rip-off Salinas California

I applied for an Orchard Bank credit card on April 6th, 2006, before I checked into their credibility.

I called them later on in the afternoon to tell them to cancel my application and told them to not debit my checking account for the $200.00 deposit that I needed to put down. I was told that they wouldn't debit my account.

This morning, April 13, 2006, I checked my account online and Orchard Bank did indeed debit my account! It took me over half an hour to find a valid number for them, and this was after I had called 4 different numbers! I finally reached a lady @ 866-574-4421 who told me that she had notes in my account that I had called to cancel my application, but that was probably because my application hadn't been received, which is bogus, because I received an email on April 6th that my application had been received.

She proceeded to tell me that it would take @ least 14 days for my $200.00 to be credited to my account. My response was that it took them less than a week to debit my account but would take 14 days to credit my account! She had no explanation as to why it took this long, and added that some folks call their bank and put a "stop payment" on the debit, which is exactly what I did when I got off the phone with her. It will cost me $20.00 to stop payment, but it's worth it to me.

Wells Fargo has a secured credit card and they are in most cities, and you can print an application off of their website and take it right into the bank, which I would trust more than Orchard Bank.
