Otis Elevators Abusive to Labor Laws and Human Rights Farmington Connecticut
This report is in regards to OTIS ELEVATORS in Mexico and their labor practices.
I contacted headquarters in Farmington, Connecticut regarding their concern for labor laws in other countries, but I was blatantly told they didn't care. I am guessing she was right, seeing as how 53,000 people are employed outside of the United States.
I find it utterly despicable when international companies such as Otis Elevators abuse human rights and labor laws in other countries, but I suppose when it comes to making money, no one really cares about the worker.
Mexico doesn't have many labor laws to protect its workers, and companies are ready to take advantage of that, particularly those coming from the outside. For example, the engineers at Otis Elevators after taxes, earn about $600 USD a month and work about 80 hours a week. Of course, they don't get paid their salary until they sign a piece of paper every week that says they only worked 40 hours a week.
Every week, they demand that engineers work day and night, driving all over the country to attend their customers, working overtime every day, sometimes 22 hours a day to get the job done. They are asked to work weekends and are denied vacation time, yet when it comes time to be paid, they are forced to sign a document that says they only worked 40 hours a week.
This is blatant abuse of labor practices, even in Mexico, and complete disregard for human rights - the right to be paid a fair wage for an 8 hour day of work.
