We lost our business and then our home and contracted Pack Rats in Dec., 2011 to pick up and store our entire household until we moved to Richmond, Va. in Jan. 2012.

We moved, rented a home large enough to accomodate our household because we could not afford to pay for storage. We contacted Pack Rats in mid Jan. 2012 to make delivery arrangements for the pods.

That's when they told us that they only "thought" they delivered to Richmond, but they really don't. Their closest was Norfolk, Va.  We were given outrageous quotes to deliver, $11,000, $6500. We were absolutely stunned. We could not get our possessions.

We are senior citizens, I had quadruple bypass surgery, lost my family business during that time, then lost our home. We had no money to store our possessions for a lenghty time.

So we had to start paying storage every month for 6 pods and paying rent on a big house with nothing to put in it. I got two interim jobs and was able to pay the fees, then was out of work for 3 months. I kept in constant contact with them and got behind the last two payments but kept them informed and let them know that I had a job.

They wrote a letter dated 9/25/2012 certified, from North Carolina and sent it to the old address that we moved from. Pack Rat knew where we were and had our address and phone numbers and email addresses here in Richmond,

The post office in Maryland didn't forward until Sunday, Oct.7, 2012. The letter got to the post office in Richmond and I got a notice the end of the week in my mailbox. I picked it up on Saturday, Oct.13. It said the auction was scheduled for Oct. 22. That is not even 30 days! I started a new job On Mon. Oct. 15.

I called to make arrangements with David Heaps, Warehouse Manager at Hunt Valley on his office phone and cell phone over and over, every day, the entire week and left messages. He never called me back. I also called Kevin Barbour, a Regional Manager in N.C.,every day over and over with no call back.

I called Tina Grano, a billing person in CT. She checked and they said that we must pay the full amount, around $3400.00, and remove all our stuff by the weekend. She finally called back the morning of the sale while I was on my way there.

I called all of the people listed above over and over and over again, to make arrangements to pay. Nobody would call me back. The auction date was actually less than 30 days and I never got the lettter until less than one week before. Thats when I started calling everybody, every day, with no return calls from anyone.

The morning of the auction I got up and left at 4:30 AM for Hunt Valley from Richmond.  I had $1000.00 with me but no time to cash in other funds. David Heaps was there and never even approached me. I had never seen him before, so I did not know or I certainly would have approached him.  It was sickening.

Kevin Barbour finally called me back the next week, apoligetic for not calling back, and told us they should not have taken our personal belongings.  David Heaps could have stopped them but he didn't.

They took all of our business and personal papers, passports, all of our clothing, my wife's makeup, old, old family heirlooms, our whole life of photos, all my wife's jewelry. Our 40 years of collections that we planned to sell to supplement our social security.  My great grandfathers gold pocket watch, heirlooms from the 1800's belonging to our great grandparents, family heirlooms: Sterling, Crystal, China, etc.

I am talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars in antiques that were meant to be passed on to family and collections I planned to sell to live on. I am in desperate need of help.  This just can't be allowed to happen to people. We should not have had to pay them month after month and then all the money they wanted to deliver to us because they screwed up.
