This post is regarding Page Parkes Modeling in Houston, Texas.

My daughter has always wanted to model and act. We took her to a few "modeling expos" and things f that natuyre and I never felt quite comfortable. The little voice in the back of my heaad was saying rip off. Unfortunately, that voice didnt hit me until it was way too late regarding Page Parkes.

My wife and I took my daughter to Page Parkes to be considered as a model and actress. We went through an initial process where they "selected" certain people to be Page Parkes hopefulls. My daughter was chosen adn I was told she would have to go through a "school" that Page Parkes had so she could learn tips on beauty and being a model. I am sorry that I dont remember specific prices but I know all in all I spent close to $2,000.

We had to take my daughter to this "school" every week for close to 8 weeks or so and when we got to the end she was told she would need a photo session. They critiqued my daughter and said she needed this and that prior to her photo shoot. We were given a choice of two photographers here in Houston. I specifically asked if we could choose our own photographer and they said no. (This was my first feeling that I was getting screwed)

We took my daughter and got her hair and nails done and bought her hundreds of dollars in new clothing as they specifically told us what kind of outfits to bring. (an athletic outfit, certain colors of shirts, certain types of shirts etc.)

After the photo shoot we were told we HAD to buy a photo package. We could buy extra but had to buy a certain amount. The photos are horrible. In one of the photos you can see the photographer in my daughter's eye!!! Pathetic. If you do not believe me I will gladly mail you a copy of the picture. If you look in the blue of my daughter's eye you can see his shadow and it is clearly the photographer. The other photos are just as shoddy!!!

Here's where it started to become more apparent to me I was getting screwed. I called the photographer and complained about the photos. I said I've had professional photos shot of me and these were anything but pro. Within minutes I received a call from Page Parkes regarding my calling and complaining! If I called the photographer why would Page Parkes call me?!?!?! Answer: My guess is they are owned by the same person or the profits are getting shared.

I was also told that if I complained that Page Parkes would not like it and it would upset her and my daughter may not be chosen!!! At this point I knew I was getting screwed without even so much as a kiss on the neck.

My daughter went to her "final interview" with Mrs. Page Parkes herself and was told she would recive a letter notifying her if she was chosen or not. The letter finally came and she was chosen. She came back in for an interview now as an "official" Page Parkes Model.

The ironic thing is that they were very upbeat and hopeful when we started in this project. "You can do this and you can do that" Now that these people were "chosen" as models, their tone changed. "We are not promising anything." "We are not promising you'll get work." etc, etc...

She was forced to sign a contract that said she worked for Page Parkes for a year and that any jobs she got, regardless of whether she got them through Page Parkes or on her own, Page Parkes got a cut of her money.

My daughter was told to call in every two weesk to check in and see if she had any jobs. Ill let you answer the question of whether she got any jobs over the next year.

Please realize a few things before you decide whether to believe my story or not.

I am not a "stage mom". I am her father. I do not force my daughter into competitions or hound her. She has ambition and drive all on her own.

Why did I stay and continue to get screwed? My daughter believed she had something and I wasnt about to tell her "Baby, they chose you because Daddy has money and is a dumbass." I couldnt do it to her. I played along knowing I was getting screwed so my daughter would feel good about what she was doing.

Has Page Parkes had a few success stories? Sure she has. But in my opinon she is using these "PAST" successes to play on kids and parents hopes and pockets.

Take your son or daughter in, pay for the school, pay for the photos, use up your Saturdays and whenh they dont get a single modeling or acting job you remember this post!!!!

An email I sent Page a little ago GREAT AGENCY NOT A SCAM

AUTHOR: valencuster - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, August 17, 2012

Dear Page Parkes Agency, I just had to write this letter and let Page Parkes Agency know how grateful I feel to be a model with this awesome company! My first meeting at the agency was with Devonie Kemp and she immediately made me feel welcomed and relaxed. A few days later I met with Page Parkes and was very impressed by her business sense, energy, and her positive outlook. A few weeks later, I went to model camp and had a great time! At model camp, I did my first shoot with one of their amazing photographers, Dan Carter, who immediately made me feel at ease, and guided and encouraged me to perform at my top potential. Malori Isham had the camp running so smoothly and she was a lot of fun! I learned so much and met so many great people! One of my favorite memories at model camp was meeting my New Faces agent, Ericka Perdue. She was so easy to talk to and made me feel at ease right away.  In the months that have followed model camp, I continue to appreciate Erickas supportive and encouraging words. She has worked so hard for me and the other models and really cares about our future and helping us become a true success in this very competitive industry!  Erik Bechtol the High Board agent and Tabitha Pagel the Manager, also works so hard for all their talent and are very committed to assuring that they succeed and have all the opportunities available to them.  At the Page Parkes Dallas division, Christopher Rich is an agent that also cares so much for his talent and always has a friendly hug and big smile! He continually works at providing opportunities and jobs that will advance the careers of his talent. This past weekend, I attended Page Parkes Agent Review that they have once a year. This is an event exclusive to Page Parkes Agency where top agencies are brought in from around the world to come to Houston. During this weekend, the models and actors have a chance to meet with these top agencies, saving us thousands of dollars if we would have to travel to them for open calls or interviews.  It was an awesome experience and a weekend full of fun and excitement! I was fortunate to get many callbacks and feel so blessed to be part of Page Parkes that provides this amazing opportunity. Again, I want to say another huge thank you to my New Faces agent Ericka Perdue, that no matter where my modeling takes me, I will be forever appreciative to her for her friendship, professionalism, and guidance! Thank you Page Parkes Agency and staff for allowing me to follow my dream!

Sincerely,
Valen Custer

I agree with Ashlee Disney

AUTHOR: Im_Not_Tyra - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

I have to side with Ashlee Disney. I have not been with the agency long, but most of the employees that I've dealt with have been exceedingly helpful. Page is the absolute best! I email her probably once a week and she responds, even during the holiday. She kindly gave me her cellphone if I ever needed any guidance. She's really sweet! I haven't interacted with many people there yet, but I'm always greeted with a warm smile, so I presume that the interactions will be good ones.

Here's my thought on the negative opinions. If you're asked to do photos and training, chances are you need it. If there is a blatant disinterest displayed by anyone in the agency, then you are not the look they're looking for. In the business you've got to hair thicker skin or you're not going to make it. Deal with the constructive criticism, take the classes or move on. Not everyone is model, not even if your mom told you that you could be.

Education About The Industry

AUTHOR: Shannon Adams Fergason - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, July 19, 2010

During my tenure with Page Parkes, I appeared on Dr. Phil twice as an Industry Expert showing the "positive" side of the industry.  Additionally, I am the published author The New Actor's Guide to the Industry.  My focus has always been educating people on the Modeling & Acting industries.  When you research actors, you will find that they have always trained in the business.  Their education is on-going.  An actor I know once saw Dustin Hoffman in an elevator who told him he was heading to class - as an attendee, not an instructor.  Models & Actors make good money - mostly upwards of $100/hour.  They earn this rate because they have the knowledge of what to do on set.  While I meet many people who have natural talent, everyone must have a working knowledge of what to do on set - whether runway, print or on camera.  Additionally, Models & Actors must have the necessary tools for their business i.e. Composites, Headshots etc..  Page Parkes does refer people to photographers that have established themselves in the industry and provide industry quality work but does not receive income from the sale of photos.  When a model/actor uses "the photographer they know", they will most often need to reshoot because the photographer has not been educated on industry standards.  This will cost the model/actor more money.  You DO NOT pay an AGENCY outright to represent you; they will take a percentage of the jobs you get.  If you do not possess the skills to land the job, their take is $0.00.  They will also protect you by checking out your clients and fighting for payment on your behalf.  You DO pay for education.  Why would you expect someone to pay for your education in cosmetology, or law, or accounting?  You wouldn't.  I still receive emails from former students extolling their experience with Page Parkes and the confidence the experience instilled in them.  I have sent my children through the process and continue to refer people to them.  Keep focus on the journey.  Page Parkes has been continually recognized by the BBB as an outstanding business in the community.  The company has been in business for 30 years because of the integrity with which they perform their service.  Page Parkes remains a sterling example of the best the industry has to offer.  My advice to you is to continue your education (through various avenues), continue to build your resume and refine your skills and you will find success in the industry.

Ex Model

AUTHOR: Anonymous Ex Model - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 13, 2010

So, as a former post on here...I am now back to state that Page Parkes is absolutely psycho. PLEASE, do NOT get your family involved with this b****. I tried to get out of my contract, and she would not let me go. She harrassed me, and my family, and would not allow me to work...even though she was keeping me in this ridiculous contract. She is nuts. After 8 months, I ended up getting out of it after contacting a lawyer. But, that was 8 months of my life wasted due to this crazy, childish lady.

Take my advice, I was signed for 4 years with her....she is not a good person.

PAGE PARKS & S121

AUTHOR: Molly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 23, 2009

Just a note...Page Parks is married to the owner of Studio One to One, so if this is the photographer you are referring to then yes, you are correct. I worked for S121 for 2 years and it was about 2 years too long.

I dont have any input as far as the modeling thing being a scam other than I always heard the rumors that it was. I do know that I quit after the district manager was changing my hours in the computer to make payroll look better, (bigger xmas bonus i assume).

They treated their employees like crap. They work them like slaves, especially during holiday peak times, they dont train the photographers well which results in upset customers. They overcharge for what they produce. Crap wrapped in pretty paper still smells like crap. They put up the best photos of ALL the years they've been open as samples but most of the photographers have only been working there for just a few months. The turnover is horrible.

I could go on and on about all kinds of horror stories about this place and the snakes that run it.

Few Surprises

AUTHOR: Truthmatters - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 13, 2009

Unfortunately, there are few surprises when hearing a story like this. As a former employee, it is painful to hear stories such as this, as I know that I was once a part of the organization. It is embarrassing. The truth of the matter is that the mode of operation for this company is damage control. I have worked with many organizations that manage to represent talent with competence and diligence, that have not needed to supplement income by providing a service, selling a service, and requiring a service that is not wholly needed. While there are protective phrases that they will be sure to tell you and be eager to remind you of later when things don't go perfectly, there is definitely a pressure to sell students. Interesting to note, all of their admissions counselors, representatives (or whichever title they have coroneted them with) are in reality sales staff. They are required and evaluated based on their performance quotas, which is worth considering when deciding to do business with them. These counselors make 100% commission. Rest assured that their interests are not your son's, daughter's or your own best interest but the paycheck dollar amount that they will get if the sell you. I hope that your daughter is not discouraged in this process, and that she does not abandon her dream based on the regrets you have with making a poor choice in dealing with that corporation. Do know that it is not a question of whether or not that company is legitimate, it is a matter of being joined with organizations that have integrity and ethics as a core, and not as a public relations tool to satiate their own guilt. I wish you and your daughter the best.

She's completely right. Although I have only been with Page.713 for 3 months, I have already formed a great business relationship with a lot of the employees.
Tabitha is amazing, like Megan said, she cares. It IS very hard to find that in this industry.

This agency may have only had me for 3 months, but within that time, I have had so many opportunities. Agent Review was probably the BEST career decision I could have made. Thanks to Page, models from Houston & Dallas have that chance, to comfortably take the next big step! & yes, it is done comfortably. All of the Page Parkes staff work hard to make sure we are comfortable. It is very much like a family. And, that is something EVERY successful model needs!

Thanks,

Thank you Page Parkes Corporation!

AUTHOR: Megan Rainbird - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 21, 2009

I have had the best experience with Page Parkes Corporation. I have been given so many opportunities through the agency and my agents. I started at the age of 9 years old and have remained very close with them throughout the past 15 years. I feel very forntunate to have the same agent, Tabitha, the entire time I have been here. I don't feel you find that kind of relationship very often in this industry. I have had the opportunity to travel to a few different places through the agency; Paris, France at 16 (with my mom); Milan, Italy at 19; Hamburg, Germany at 23; Miami, LA, Dallas and NY to name a few.

This agency is very special because they really care about their models. While I love to travel and have a great experience everytime, I still think about how amazing my mother agency is and how I miss them. They have taught me so many things; how to confident with myself, meet new people from all over, enjoy my job, and the business side of this industry because you can get lost very easily.

Thank you Page Parkes Corporation!

Stay away from this agency

AUTHOR: Keahi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 06, 2009

From what I heard Tyra Banks say on her show that a legitimate agency will not ask you for money for classes or pictures or anything like that. When an agency decides to represent a model, they will send the model to a photographer to take photos for their book and they will pay for that. If the model needs further training for example in walking the runway, they will send the model for that training and pay for that. They will even provide an apartment and money for living expenses. Some will even supply food in the refrigerator for the model. Once the model is working, he/she will then pay the agency back.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING AS A MODEL WITH PAGE FOR 3 YEARS NOW. I STARTED IN HOUSTON AS WELL, TAKING THE CLASSES, AND PAYING THE MONEY. OF COURSE IT COSTS! BUT, THE FIRST YEAR IS ALWAYS SLOW. IT WAS FOR ME. I HAD NO JOBS THAT YEAR, BUT I WAITED IT OUT. I HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS ALMOST EVERY WEEK. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THINGS TO PICK UP, SINCE THEY ALREADY HAVE WORKING MODELS THAT WILL MORE THAN LIKELY GET FIRST PICK. I LIVE 4 HOURS AWAY FROM HOUSTON, AND I AM SIGNED WITH PAGE PARKES IN DALLAS, AND I LIVE 2 HOURS AWAY. BUT, I MAKE THE CASTINGS, THE TEST SHOOTS, EVEN THE THINGS I HAD TO PAY FOR...BECAUSE IF YOU WAIT IT OUT YOU WILL GET IT IN RETURN...YOU JUST HAVE TO BE PATIENT. IF YOU THINK PAGE PARKES IS A RIP OFF, YOU ARE VERY WRONG. EITHER YOU HAD IT IN YOUR MIND THE ENTIRE TIME AND DIDN'T WAIT IT OUT LONG ENOUGH, OR SHE ISN'T CUT OUT TO MODEL. BUT BEING SIGNED WITH PAGE PARKES IS A HUGE HONOR, THEY GOT ME SIGNED WITH ONE OF THE BIGGEST AGENCIES IN NEW YORK! I'M SORRY YOU LOST YOUR MONEY, SO DID I FOR A LITTLE WHILE...BUT UNLIKE YOU I WAITED IT OUT, AND I GOT THAT MONEY BACK.
