#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Transfer of warranty
AUTHOR: Richard Gotshall - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, March 27, 2012
I am writing in defense of the charge for transfer of warranty that our company has in place. Hopefully I can clear up any questions regarding it. We have had this program in place for over twenty years. We have never had any complaints regarding it. It is also located right on the front page of our proposal about an inch away from where the client signs the agreeement so it could not possibly have been a surprise to this particular client. When a house is sold we have no way of knowing it so in order for the new owner to take over the warranty we are called and we come out and re-inspect the roof to make sure everything is still up to par then we transfer the warranty and issue new paperwork to the new owner. In this case $4000 is a lot of money to transfer a warranty, but your average roof does not cost $40,000 dollars either. Average roofs cost from $7500 to $20,000. We would have definetly taken the size of the home into consideration when tranferring this warranty as we would with every client we work for. I'll even give anyone reading this a tip. If you are planning on selling your home, ask the contractor if they would consider transferring the warranty to one new owner within the first year or two. Most contractors will gladly do that. I apologise for what I think is a mis-understanding regarding this report and I hope this clears up how and why tranfers are chargable items not just for my company but for 90 percent of the roofing contractors in the business.
