Paul Fegen (Fig) Paul "Fig" Fegen was DISBARRED from practicing law. He also filed BANKRUPTCY, cheating every creditor, then rented rooms out & ripped everybody off, while he lived rent free for one whole year West Hollywood California
The TRUE facts: When Paul "FIG" Fegen got disbarred in 2011 for repeatedly cheating people, he was forbidden to practice law, so he turned to a career doing card tricks. A master manipulator, Paul Fegen hired an innocent lady, Salee Amina, to completely renovate 'his' home at 8428 Fountain, West Hollywood CA, building nine rooms for tenants, and transforming the garbage heaped junk yard & filthy stinking old house into a beautiful showplace; all at Salee Amina's personal cost, since Paul promised he'd sell the house and pay her & reimburse her costs, & split the profits from the sale of the house, after she finished fixing it. Paul FIG Fegen rented out all of the rooms, except his bedroom, to tenants, diverting the rent money collected to his magic career, instead of paying the rent on the house. (What Salee didn't know is that Paul did not even own the place. he was only a renter, collecting money from roommate sub-tenants.)
All rent was paid to "FIG" (which is Paul Fegen's nick name & his performance name, as a magician, "Fantastic FIG"). The FIG association had nothing to do with Salee Amina, & was 100% owned by Paul Fig Fegen. All collected rents went into a bank account that was 100% owned by Paul FIG Fegen only. FIG was DBA (Doing business as) filed solely by & for Paul Fegen. Salee Amina never got one penny from Paul Fegen for any of her work on thathouse, nor did she have even the slightest ownership in Paul Fegen's FIG association. She benefitted in no way from any tenant there. Paul lived on the income from rents paid, and diverted that money to finance Paul's magic act business (card tricks). Also, with the money that Paul Fegen conned out of Salee Amina, Paul hired and paid 6 employees to create several websites for him to promote his magic acts, and to answer his phone, type his e-mails, place advertisements for his magic and promote for his card trick magic acts, even getting paid as assistants when he performed his card tricks. His employees were Shari, Carolina, Don, Courtney, Mariam, and Heidi.
They were each paid $10 to $20 per hour, but Paul never paid Salee anything for 8 months of her constant work renovating 'his' house - which greatly benefitted Paul Fegen. Each month in 2013, their pay was possible only because of Salee Amina having financed the project that allowed Paul to live rent free all year at 8428 Fountain Ave, West Hollywood, where he also rented out every room except for his bedroom to paying tenants. One of those tenants was Pej Mokhtari. Pej had paid Paul rent for over 6 months & when Pej wanted to move out, Paul refused to refund Pej's deposit. he also refused to refund Lindsey's deposit. In fact, he refused to refund anything to nearly everyone. He only took money in. He didn't give it out. Salee Amina lost $56,000.00, because of her naively having trusted Paul Fegen, thinking that he was a lawyer.
In the end, Salee found that Paul Fig Fegen was only using her, so that he could collect more rent from more roommate tenants. Paul promised Salee that if Salee would finish renovating his house and build even more rooms to rent out, that he would sell the house & be able to pay her, insisting that she had to finish the work, or else she would not get paid. Pressured by Paul, she finished everything, but, still did not get paid. When Salee tried to collect the money that Paul Fegen had promised, and the reimbursement of her costs to do the renovating that Paul Fegen had ordered, Paul kept delaying, continually promising her a written contract and payment. An attorney named Lindsey Worth witnessed Paul's promises to Salee and his continual delays in getting a contract to Salee, claiming he was drafting the contract, then saying he was editing the contract, then saying he had sent it to a secretary to type, then saying that he lost it and had no copy.
Finally, after she had finished all of the work, and had no recourse, Paul FIG Fegen admitted that he had never intended to pay her. HE HAD ONLY USED HER. When Salee found that the house was not owned by him, paul said that if Salee did not make the payments every month, he would lose the house, then he would not be able to pay her or sell the place. So, Salee deposited money each month into a numbered account at City National Bank, thinking she was making Paul's mortgage payment, only to find out later that Paul Fegen was only a renter. During most of an entire year, Paul had gotten Salee to pay the rent on the house that she was renovating for him (8428 Fountain), claiming she'd get her money back when the house gets sold. In the end, Salee found out, to her shock, that Paul did not even own the place, & so could not sell it. It was all lies!
She also found that Paul was no longer an attorney and had been disbarred, and that he had filed bankruptcy, and was basically broke, living off the money from renting rooms out and letting people get their mail at phony law office address, where Paul Fegen had a tiny $500/ mo office that he rented from attorney Ron Jafazza, at 9025 Wilshire 5th floor, Beverly Hills. And even there, Paul Fegen was over a year behind in his rent at that office, but he kept collecting 'rent' from all of the sub-tenants who he was renting to, also diverting that money collected from "mail-drop" tenants into his magic business. Paul had been taking unfair advantage of Salee, all along. As a result, Paul lived totally rent-free for a whole year in the house at 8428 Fountain, while Salee kept paying the full rent ($3,850.00/mo) to the owner, Hamid Roknian (of Santa Monica CA). Basically, Paul got Salee to spend $56,000.00 on his phony project, and Paul benefitted an additional over $40,000.00 in free rent! Salee was the big loser.
Then the City of West Hollywood issued code violations on the house, and the owner (Roknian) was told the City could arrest him if he didn't fix the structural damage to the house. The house also had Black Mold & gas leaks throughout. The LA Co Health Dept issued a notice to the owner. Then, the owner (Hamid Roknian) and Paul Fegen asked Salee Amina to do those repairs, promising that if she did that, then a lease would be made on the house in her own name, and she'd be able to benefit from all of her work, instead of all of the benefit going to Paul Fegen. The owner said he wanted to evict Paul and replace him with Salee Amina renting, and possibly buying, the house. But, perhaps this was a ploy also, because he got Salee to pay for the work (including the costs of painting the house, repairing plumbing & electrical, surface Black mold remediation ($1,700.00) and the costs of redoing the whole place which had rotten leaking gas pipes ($5,830.00), along with structural repairs; all based on promises that her finishing the work would be the only way for her to get paid back all she had sunk into the place up to that time.
But, the City kept giving more & more violation, totally 44 eventually. In the end, the city threatened the owner with criminal charges because his property had so much wrong with it, and since 2013, he had been diverting from following the codes & getting permits; so, to avoid any more repairs, the owner suddenly demolished the entire downstairs, without giving any notice to any of the tenants who rented rooms down there from Paul FIG Fegen. When they went to Paul to get their money back, he claimed he was broke & told them to try to get money out of Salee. Salee literally paid for half of them to have places to move their things to and also she provided some of Paul's tenants with free places to rent, paid by her. Unfortunately, in their upset, one guy who was very angry, posted slander all over the Internet against Salee Amina, who is the last person who should have been defamed by all this.
She was conned worse than anyone else involved in this fiasco. Salee had always helped those people in countless ways, just because she is kind. But, in their anger, three of the guys (Glen, Andrey & Thomas) harassed & threatened her, vandalized her car & broke into her bedroom and robbed her. Glenn & Andrey got restraining orders against them. Paul Fig Fegen got away unharmed. Being forgiving, Salee took no revenge against them. In fact, when Thomas apologized to her, she helped him & provided him a place with free rent for two months, so he could get on his feet. She also provided a past tenant named Nick the same thing. She also got parking permits for all of Paul Fig Fegen's previous tenants who asked, always trying to help. Meanwhile, Paul Fegen still lives at that house, not paying any rent, and the landlord has been trying to evict him for several months. The eviction Case # 13R06698 Roknian Vs. Fegan (Fegen).
