I recently bought an item off Ebay, and I used my paypal account to pay. I haven't used it in a while, and the bank account they had on file was old, and I had left it without any money. I first removed my old bank account, using their website, then I entered my new credit card information, made the new card my primary means of payment, and then made the purchase, selecting the new card as the payment method. Somehow, Paypal charged the old bank account, cousing me to become overdrawn, and racking up several overdrawn fees, to the tuneof 51.73. I called paypal, and explained the situation, and the best answer that they had for me basically was that I was a lier. The insisted that I had not taken my old credit card or bank account off, and there was nothing they could do. This was their mistake, and it cost me money, but they took the attitude that I didn't matter, that there was no way they could have made a mistake, and that I was lying. I don't want anything from Paypal, except to call the bank and explain the error, but they wouldn't do that. So I advise you all out there to think twice before using Paypal.

My old bank account has been verified for two years. Therefore there should be no excuse. They have verified my identity, and if I say I want to close the account, it should be done, without charge to me.

Paypal bills itself as secure but try getting a refund ! They advertise their $1000 insurance guarantee but it is useless. My advice is always use a credit card because if you don,t recieve the goods then you file a complaint with your C.C. Company. They will credit your account right away while they investigate the seller/transaction. I,ve bought and sold alot of items thru Ebay and Paypal always using credit cards.

Hi, I have done this type of transaction with paypal before...I had purchased something from ebay awhile back...I too had an old bank account info on my paypal account...And I updated it to my new bank account just like what you did...But this did not happen to me...I think what happen to you might be of your fault...When changing or updating your bank info on paypal...Paypal would have to take 3-5 business day to comfirm your update or change...Which they will charge you a a secret dollar amount to your account only you would know..which would appear on your bank statment or transaction history...then paypal will wait for your confirmation of the amount of the charged on your account. By doing this paypal has confirm that you are the owner of that account...THen now you can pay using paypal...In other words..you and paypal must confirm your update before you make any transactions...Let me know if you did not go through the process I explained above...if you did not..then paypal is not responsible. sorry for you lost...I am not saying it is your fault or not...It seemed like you did not go through that process becuz it was not explain in your report..And it might been a mistake on your side.

Brenda, I checked the small town you live in on my map. I used to drive truck, and I ran through Nebraska many times. Mostly on interstate 80, south of you.
Honestly, there are a lot of advantages to living in a small town like that.
One of the disadvantages is the lack of availability of certain things. I can understand why someone in a small town would turn to the internet or ebay to buy or sell things.
Turning to the internet in situations like that makes some sense.
Just be careful. Use a fraud-protected means of payment like a credit card. And always stop the transaction at the first sign of a problem. Frauds are good about stringing the whole thing out until it's too late to charge back the purchase.
Personally, I'd stick to established brick and mortar locations that also have an e-commerce web site. Wal-mart for example.
As for ebay, read all the instruction on ebay before you begin. Plus, come here and read all the complaint files. That way, you'll have some idea of what to look out for as far as fraud.
Good luck!

Hi, oh I would never move back there. I left when I was 18 and never looked back. I hated it then, and I know it is worse now.
I live 50 miles from a town of any major size but I can walk to the post office in this little town, that's why I'm considering E-bay.

Of course, you could try selling them to a book dealer in the area. That way, you avoid the ebay problems altogether.
Ebay will want a security account from you. Typically a credit card or debit card number. I don't have either to give them. Plus, I'd never provide them even if I did. I don't see any great deals on ebay that would make it worth the risk.
Anaheim isn't really a great place to live. Maybe if you hit the lottery or something.
Homes are $500 and up. You can easily pay close to a million for a normal single-family residence. Nothing special. Nothing you'd see in architectural digest or homes beautiful. Plain old houses for $750,000.
Plus, the air's bad. Smog.
The police are always killing the black people here. Of course, they do that everywhere now.
Overall, I would not recommend coming here unless you have a job with sufficient income waiting for you.
When I drove a semi, I saw much nicer places to live. People think that southern California holds some great promise of opportunity. Personally, I don't see anything here that you can't find in many other parts of the country.

Hi Paul, how's Anaheim these days? I used to live in Huntington Beach.
I have been lucky, I always got what I paid for. I never spend more than I can stand to lose and I would never buy something for hundreds of dollars.
I am just going to try and sell some of the books I am done with.

There are just so many ebay/paypal fraud complaints here, it's almost hard to believe that they are able to find new people dumb enough to join.
The problems are just one right after another. Either the crooked members are trying to cheat you, or else ebay has some kind of scam going on.
Or else, ebay doesn't want to take the time to sort out the problem when you get cheated. After all, they got paid. That's all that really matters to them.
People never listen when I tell them this. I have a friend who insists that ebay is the best thing since a round world. Boy, is he going to be in for a helluva surprise one of these days.
Start a home business if you like. But stay the hell away from the internet and especially ebay.
Trust me, the time, aggravation, and money you save will be worth far more than anything you could ever possibly get from the ebay fools.
Use the search function at the top. Read the complaints. Chances are, once you spend the first hour or so reading about all the trouble other members had, you'll forget about all your ebay dreams.

Online banking

I am still amazed by how many people continue to do banking online. It is just asking to be ripped off. Yet the banks and government continue to promote it. I wonder why?
I buy books quite often on E-bay but I only bid on items that will take a check or money order.
I am getting ready to sell on E-bay for the first time, I opened a separate account at my bank for this and I am not going to mess with paypal.
