My PC got infected the night before last after having used McAfee successfully for 2 years. All of a sudden my PC showed that 45 virus had infected my applications(Malware, trojans, misc. viruses of Low - Medium - High security). I trie to open Excel but is was infected, Powerpoint was the same way and the messages kept on coming back with the request to pay $79.95 to PC Bug repair in order to remove all 45 viruses.
I found this rather SUSPICIOUS and a next to racketering practice that I had never experienced before. Upon removing McAfee this morning my Internet connectivity got disabled and was restored after a painful session on the phone with Microsoft. Furthermore the Security Shield product has nowdisappeared off my programs and my application tray alltogether! So no protection is actually being delivered to my PC.....I called the 800 number and I was told that they would send me instructions to get the application loaded without even verifying my payment information and the transaction number(3362731546).
Definitely a strange transaction with a company whose business practices need to be investigated!

I'm a fan of Hijack This. You can download this for free from a few sites includingCNET.com. From CNET you can also watch a video onits use.
Hijack This willallow to clean junk (malware, viruses) from your registry.BTW: it will also allow you to clean registry keys that are needed by the operating system and applications. Use with discretion

First of all, McAfee is a HORRIBLE program. It is junk. And, it is a system hog which will take over and slow down your system. Steer clear of McAfee.
Second, I would bet that your McAfee subscription was expired, and/or you failed to keep itPROPERLY updated, and that is how this "PC Bug Repair" malware got on your computer in the first place.
Yes, that pop up for "PC Bug Repair" WAS THE MALWARE that wiped out your computer.
Always disable pop-ups on your computer, and never click on any pop up as they often contain "executable" files that will install a trojan or similar malware. NEVER CLICK ON POP UPS!! NEVER!!!
Just common sense here.

This eliminates everything past the restore time, and does NOT wipe out pictures or personal stuff.
If you get any kind of PC bug, restore don't Pay.
