I put in an application to adopt Emmit through Peace For Paws and on October 14th they emailed I as approved.  I have never received anything regarding registering him or putting in him in my name to date therefore I called to confirm I could proceed with Emmits treatment plan (Reconcile) that my vet prescribed that I have personally approved to pay for and treat Emmit for his severe separation anxiety. Emmit is jeopardizing his health and well being with his crate escaping.  He has caused physical harm to himself by escaping his crate in the past.  After consulting with my veternarian she recommended medication therapy along with training w are currently 3 weeks into traning but have been working with Emmit since July.  Emmit can sit, shake down, stay and leave it.  He still however suffers from severe separation anxiety.  I am awaiting final approval so that we an being Reconcile. I just received a call from Peace For Paws indicating they disagree with medicating a dog he needs training therefore they requested I bring bring Emmit to a local boarding place drop him off they are revoking my adoption now.  How can an organization 1 year young dictate a treatment plan for my dog they approved me to adopt?  They are unethical and I believe Emmit's well being is in serious jeopardy.  I have cared for this dog since July all expenses paid by myself including food, 2 crates and I am Emmits 4th foster home.  PFPO pulled Emmit in April 2012 from a high kill shelter.  The third foster was a certified trainer, therefore I have no idea knowing his history why they would pull him from a certified trainer and put him with a volunteer foster such as myself, however it is a blessing in disquise because I love this dog.  How can PFPO remove him from my care because of their selfish ego?  Please help save Emmit!Exposing Peace For Paws I am a foster mom to Emmit who was rescued by Peace For Paws in Dublin, Ohio.  Emmit is an approximately 8 month old black lab/pit bull mix and has SEVERE crate and separation anxiety.  I got Emmit  in July 2012 from a former foster who is a dog trainer.  When this dog was handed off to me no instructions were given except he peed out of his crate keep him on the linoleum and not the carpet.  The first night Emmit escaped from his crate and tried to dig a hole under the door causing severe damage to my kitchen floor and sub flooring, during the process he cut up the pads of his paws and required vet care within the days following the escape.  We zip tied the crate perimeter and fortunately Emmit did not escape anymore until last week when my daughter came home from college she found Emmit in my bedroom and my pills and vitamins were strung all over the room.  Upon accounting for everything it appeared he only ingested a multi-vitamin with iron but we nearly escaped death since there were anti-anxiety pills, cholesterol, ibuprofen everywhere but all accounted for.  Emmit had figured out how to undo the bottom latch of the crate and could squeeze through to get out.   We then put clips on the door to try eliminate his escaping via his new route and Emmit once again found his way out by chewing and separating the metal on the crate and again escaped at which time he got in the trash but once again he was not injured (thankfully).   The rescue informed me to put Emmit in a very small crate 17 high by 24 long and Emmit himself cannot stand up or stretch in this size crate but I was advised by their trainer if he can turn around and lay down again he is fine so I put him in it for a couple days to get us by.

This past Monday knowing that Emmit needed to be crated for 8 hours I went out and personally purchased a plastic crate also suggested by the rescue organization as Peace For Paws said Emmit formerly did well in that type of crate.  I paid for this crate out of my own pocket for the love of Emmit.  Emmit did great in his crate up until yesterday he was crated from 8-12  then my daughter was home with him from 12 to 5:30, we crated him to go to the gym from 5:30pm to 7:30pm came home to find him out of the crate once again and in the kitchen on the counters and had consumed 10 laxatives an unknown amount of ibuprofen, whey protein powder, dog biscuits etc.  I immediately called the rescue organization and could not reach anyone so I called the emergency vet who suggested I bring him in.  I then received a call from Peace For Paws Director Brandy stating they were not going to approve the vet visit but instead for me to give him peroxide to induce vomiting.  Reluctant as I was since I am not a professional and just a volunteer I gave him peroxide, he puked and I seen nothing in the puke (not that I knew what I was looking for anyway) and Peace For Paws said to feed him 1/2 cup of food for dinner he will be fine.  (Since when did they get their veterinary medicine license?)  The vet called me back to see where I was and I told them that approval was not given for a vet visit but instead for me to give Emmit peroxide to induce vomiting.  The vet's office then informed me that they did not want vomiting induced they wanted charcoal activation and follow up blood work.  So as I lay all night crying wondering if my foster dog is going to make it through the night I emailed the rescue organization and requested Emmit see a Behavioral Health Specialist for his severe anxiety and their response is that they have effective trainers successfully train crate escaping dogs as they were not sure of their resources right now to pay for Emmit's Behavioral Health Care.

Peace For Paws is supposed to be an organization that rescues and protects animals so why is it when an animal needs help they are failing to provide it?

After numerous attempts to seek help from their organization for Emmit's escaping their only reply is "they have certified dog trainers successful in training a crate escaping dog".. but never once have they offered to place emmit in a trainer's home.  Instead they utilize text to teach me how to train Emmit.

I am a volunteer not a veterinary medicine specialist, not a certified dog trainer and certainly do not have the resources it takes to take care of this special needs dog.  In fact I was lured in by the fact that the organization covers all medical expenses just feed him give him love until he finds his forever home.

I have tried peanut butter bones in the crate, music playing in the background, my t shirts in the crate, spraying him with the water bottle, corrective leash/collar training all to be ineffective.

This dog was rescued from the kill shelter emaciated where he had been left for dead to care for himself and he obviously has severe psychological issues.  He does not know when we leave if we are leaving for an hour, for an afternoon or forever.  We can train him all we want but I honestly feel that the only thing that is going to help him is behavioral health care and time.  I have since learned that I am his 4th foster in which I am sure also does not help his matter.

How can a rescue organization get away with such animal cruelty and neglect

I am outraged and ready to fight!  I am ready to fight for Emmit since he has nobody that cares enough to fight for him.

Peace For Paws only helps easy dogs that feed money back in the organization what happens to all of the Emmit's?

Where is Peace For Paws funds going because they are obviously not available for the dogs that need it? Reply Forward
