Penrod Counseling Center All around unprofessional Avon, Indiana

This place is an absolute joke. For my first appointment I had some trouble finding the place, so I arrived just on time. They told me they would have me fill out the paperwork afterwards. Fine. But after my appointment (and after Deb had already gone back to her office with another patient) I realized the receptionist had left. I couldn't find anyone else and didn't want to interrupt the other session. I didn't want to just leave, but I also wasn't about to leave my information sitting out. It was probably at least 20 minutes before I found another staff member.

I have complaints about both the therapist and the receptionis. First, the receptionist. She has caused the most problems. I have continually returned calls asking over and over again for my insurance information. I complied every time. I have sent several faxes of both sides of my card. She kept claiming the insurance company could not find me in the system. I find this hard to believe-as I have been to several other doctors and the pharmacy with this card with no problems. After receiving a letter with a balance (I had been wondering when I would get billed-I had assumed she figured it out because I hadn't hear from them in a while) I called to pay over the phone. I verified first that she had figured out the insurance info. She said she never found me and that she called and they couldn't find me. At this point, I was livid.I called the insurance company and they had no problem looking me up. The customer service rep put me on hold and called Penrod-she verified that they had the correct info. Apparently now they are set straight and will file the claim. After reading the other report on Penrod I'm beginning to think that either they are just complete idiots or enjoy giving people the run around when it comes to insurance. Oh and as an aside-the insurance rep. said there was no record that anyone from Penrod had ever called inquiring about the account.

The therapist/owner:

She was nice but very unprofessional. We spent about half the sessions talking about her and her childhood problems, medications she was on, etc. No matter what I said she somehow turned it back to her. I have a feeling she needs to be IN therapy-not giving it. She also spent one session munching on donuts. I was just dumbfounded. Also-she had told me she can't prescribe meds but that I could make an appt with my family doctor and she would give them a call to discuss my situation before my appointment so the doc knew what was going on. She never called.

This center is absolutely the worst. If you live in Hendricks county, IN I highly suggest Hendricks Therapy in Danville.They are wonderful. Cummins is also good but they no longer accept insurance.
