Like a lot of people have reported here, I tried to cancel my peoplepc account and was told that I would get 2 months of service free to make sure I had a backup in case I had problems with my new internet service providers.

Little did I know that I would now be having a problem with peoplepc. After 2 months of no charges, they started charging my bank account again. Luckily for me it only took two months for me to discover their deception.

I called them back to complain about the charges reappearing, and was given the same long winded speech about why I was changing before realizing I had heard all this before. I cut-off the barely English speaking representative and told him that this was my second attempt at trying to cancel my account. He then proceeded to get me to agree to lower and lower levels of service before I sternly told him all I wanted was to cancel my account and make sure that there would be no more charges to my account. After finally getting an 8-digit cancellation number (some people have reported a 17-digit cancellation number?), I asked to speak to a supervisor to get a refund for the 2 months of charges.

The supervisor told me that I had agreed to the restart of charges in my first cancellation attempt and that they would not refund my charges. I proceeded to ask for the procedure for filing a formal complaint about their cancellation practices and was told to send an email to member.services@peoplepc.com. I demanded that they send me in writing a formal cancellation letter and she refused saying that they only send emails to peoplepc accounts, which is very convenient for them and an easy way for them to continue the scam.

I googled peoplepc immediately after getting off the phone and saw a number of items about websites devoted to the problems people were having about cancelling their accounts, including this one. So I decided to lend my voice to the cause of bring to light their deceptive practices. Of course I also immediately called my bank to stop payment to peoplepc for any future charges as well as filing disputes with VISA about the two recent charges.

One other point I would like to make is that the bank representative told me that any future charges from peoplepc would be blocked unless they changed the amount. So just because you blocked them for that amount doesn't mean they wouldn't come back and try with a different amount once they figure out they've been blocked.

get your cancellation number and dont agree with any promotions. all ISP's are giving out confirmations of the cancellaion. because if you are going to despute the charges, the company will be asking you for the confirmation number of the said cancellation and if you can't provide one, what will back you up with your claim?
