Permanent general I got charged for the whole month of December when my coverage started December 31st. Nationwide

On December 31st, I purchased insurance for my car from the General. It said on their program that my insurance started December 31st, 2015. I never got to pick my due date as they tout on their commercials. I never received proof of insurance cards from them.

What I did receive was a nasty e-mail saying my payment for January was late. They tried to take it out of my bank account on the 23rd of January, but there were no funds. I thought how could this be when i just paid for the month of January on December31st? And why would they take it out long before the month was up?

I called and was told that my December 31st payment went for the month of December, even though my coverage didn't actually start until the 31st Of December. So, in other words, the charged me for a whole month before my coverage began! I tried complaining and saying how this was not logical, but could not get through to the thick-headed customer service agent. Everyone knows when you make an initial insurance payment, it is for the following, not preceding month. How can I get coverage for a time period that has already elapsed? Do not get coverage with them. They will look for any way they can to rip you off.
