We had a horrible experience at Petersen Marine. My husband stopped by to pick up a rope left on his dad's boat that was being serviced here and accidentally left his Persol sunglasses ($250). His dad received a phone call from Petersen Marine shortly after letting him know the sunglasses had been left. We thought that was cool. They arranged to pick up the boat and the sunglasses the next day. When my husband and his dad showed up the next day, the sunglasses were gone. They searched the boat twice and talked to several people. They were assured the lot was secure and the public didn't have access to steal anything. Elyse specifically was very professional and assured my husband that she would look into it, and if they couldn't find the sunglasses Petersen Marine would take care of it. He came home for the weekend feeling bummed the glasses were missing but confident Petersen Marine was doing their best to find them. After the weekend, he called back in and got the run around. He was finally able to talk to the service manager, Mike, who adamantly refused to take responsibility for the sunglasses. In fact, he even accused my husband of making up the story to get money out of Petersen Marine... seriously?

I can only imagine three scenarios here: 1. Someone from the general public somehow got through their fences and entered the lot and stole the glasses. We've been assured that this wouldn't happen, and there was a lot of other expensive equipment on the boat that wasn't touched. 2. Another customer stole the sunglasses while on the lot picking up or dropping off the boat. Seems unlikely they would be there unsupervised, but it is possible. 3. A Petersen Marine employee stole the sunglasses.

The bottom line is that expensive sunglasses were taken from the boat after Petersen Marine assured us they were on the boat. The way I see it, the theft occurred on Petersen Marine's watch, and they should take care of it regardless of who actually stole the glasses. They have lost our boat and my father-in-law's boats as customers now. They refused to take responsibility for $250 worth of customer possessions stolen on their lot and as a result, they have now lost thousands of dollars worth of business over the years from us. Poor business. Be careful leaving your boat and your possessions with these guys, it just might walk away and they will just shrug their shoulders.
