I'm speaking on behalf of many former and current Petsmart employees and I would prefer to remain anonymous because I tried the caresmart line, they figured out it was me and came after me. I would like to start by saying not all Petsmarts are bad, but there are certain people that are in this company that are manipulating records to increase their own profits.
There are certain people in upper management in Petsmarts all over the country that come in to make profit or save money any way they can. Some of the many stadegies they use is setting up employees to be terminated or push them to quit so they could never collect unemployment. They've also been known to cut employees hours from full-time to part-time without warning, which results in them losing their benefits.
Another thing, is because of these actions, there are never enough staff to cover all three shifts. So they have employees work these inconvenient, random hours and if an employee tries to ask for a specific schedule, the manager writes whatever hours they want and sometimes says ''Work these hours or else''. Upper management also uses what they call ''write ups''. From my experience is a fabricated record of what an employee has done wrong so if there is a lawsuit they're able to show this false record to the court and say that the employee is at fault and not them.
I think I found some holes in their game though which I hope someone out there can create a public case out of. All you have to do is look back at the trail they left behind. I'll walk you through it step by step.
First lets start with the store managers and the district managers. Look back at their work history and you just might find that every company they were a part of were non-union organizations where as I've learned that good, honest workers are completely unprotected from these people. They come in and down size the staff to the bare minimum to increase profits for themselves and their superiors.
When it looks like they're going too far and treating the workers with no respect and putting too much responsibility on their shoulders where they do consider the possibility that they could be slapped with a lawsuit and lose in court, they announce that they're going to ''retire'', but really they're retreating to a different non-union company where they'll do the same thing over again and whoever takes over their previous position either fixes things or takes the fall.
Look back at the records of the employees both past and present. For the longest time they had near perfect if not perfect records until shortly after these shady people appeared. Match the times when the lower ranking workers were recieving negative, outrageous reports on their records with the times that these ''managers'' appeared. You'll see that both times very closely match.
Another things you see from these false records is that most of the people who got written up and ultimately terminated or pushed to resign were low ranking associates of full-time status with benefits, or they were part-time workers who had close to full-time hours. And let's not forget the ones who were full-time status and then suddenly they became part-time staus just shortly after these money motivated ''managers'' were sent in. If you were to look at the locations they are currently in, you'll see that there are hardly any full-time associates.
Here's something I myself can't prove but I'll tell you anyway. Because of the very limited number of staff, hardly anyone is able to take all of their breaks except for lunch only because the employees aren't paid for that particular break and it's the one time where it could be proven that these criminals that try to pass themselves along as managers are breaking labor laws. On a personal note, I think the rule about visible tatoos is kind of discriminatory. Unless it's an image or content that's truly offensive I don't see the problem.
The conclusion all of us have come to is that hopefully through this a public case can be made and Petsmart and other companies that are presently non-union should have a union. That way all employees can get the schedules, benefits,and wages that they truly deserve and need, and most importantly, truly good, hard working people will always be safe and protected from these corporate terrorists. I'll see if there is any other information I can provide.
