I paid of the loan me and my husband had with PHH on January 2016 with the funds from my husband's life insurance policy.  I contacted PHH reguading the escrow account that was tied to the account and they stated that they would send a check right out with the funds that were left, just of 700.00.

In February I get the check and it was in both my and my late husband's name.  Which by this point his accounts have been closed and we did not have a joint account together.  I called PHH about the check and that I could not cash the check as it was in both of our names.  They requested yet another death certificate and a letter stating that I needed the check just in my name.  I mailed the requested informating certified, like my husband did our payments as they had a tendency to lose our payments.

Four weeks have gone by and I called them again reguarding the escrow account.  They stated that they have not recieved the information, I stated, yes you did, it was recieved on March 8, 2016 as I have the return reciept signed and dated.  They asked me to fax the letter and deathcertificate to their special loan office.  I faxed the information and waited till monday to call them.  They stated that they recieved the information and I will get a check in 7 to 10 days.

I got the check, guess what?  It is still in both of our names.  I called back to PHH escrow department and spoke to a supervisor Joseinego who stated that I need to call back on Thursday to let him have time to investicate the matter.  I know 700.00 is not much money to most people, but I am 80 years old and that money could help me pay off his debts and funeral expense.

So I am doing my part.  Warning people to stay away from this company.  Far far away.

File a complaint with the CFPB

You have supplied the information to your former loan servicer twice and apparently they just don't get it. Time to file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also known as the CFPB.  Go to consumerfinance.gov to file your complaint. Make sure you have all of your documentation.  The CFPB will jump right on it from what I have seen. Good luck.
