I just want everyone to know about the experience I had with Philadelphia Marketing Executives. I was searching for jobs on Monster when i came across a vague but interesting posting for an entry level marketing position. Being a new college grad i figured what the heck, i'll submit my resume. The very next day i received a call and look who it is! Philadelphia Marketing Executives! I was able to get an interview within 3 days (odd i thought) but nevertheless i was thrilled to be interviewing for a position and get my career started.

The interview process was brief and vague. I interviewed with the CEO which i thought was weird, and following the interview he said that i might be called back for a second round interview if they were interested in pursuing me as a candidate. It was the next day when I received a call from Philadelphia Marketing Executives saying that they were interested in bringing me back for a second round interview. Great I thought. But this is where the fun began.

I sat in the lobby with a few other candidates in my professional business attire while listening to people yell in the room next to me during their "morning meeting" i was told by the receptionist. Shortly after i was introduced to the account executive conducting my second round interview. We walked out to his car and he went over my resume, after that we hit the road. We drove about 45 minutes away from the office for an appointment that he had with a "client". We showed up to the business and the guy the account executive was supposed to be selling something to said that he was not interested, i seemed to hear that most of the day. We saw about 30 doors that day and the account executive did make a sale, he said that he made $100 on the sale but i found out later that he had lied.

The account executive and I returned to the office that day around 4:30 pm, we had been cold calling businesses since 10:00 am. I was called into the CEO's office and he asked about my day, i wanted to tell him that it sucked but before i could really say anything he just said "soooo ummmm, sometimes you have a bad day", and he laughed it off. He went over the "business model" of the company with me that the account executive had stumbled through during lunch, and showed me the breakdown. I was very intrigued by the assistant manager position and if i worked hard enough i could get there, he said. He also said that there was a base + commission ($400 a week + 10% commission) if I did not want to work on straight comission. I took the bait.

I accepted a position with Philadelphia Marketing Executives a week after my second round interview. It was very awkward at first but it seemed like everyone wanted to be my friend. The job really drained me. I had to be there every morning at 8:15 am and was not allowed to leave until after 5 pm. I know that seems like normal hours but that base salary I was told about in the interview, didnt exist. I had to fulfull 10 contracts a week to get the base salary and the top guys there were only getting 5-6 contracts a week. I was then told that most of the top guys get 5-6 contracts a week so they choose the straight commission so they make more money. I took the commission option because "everyone else was on it and they did pretty good".

I did the sales for a week, going door to door, selling their product. I seemed to do pretty well. Everyone clapped for me in the morning meetings when i did good the day before, all the "leaders" praising me for a job well done. It all felt really good, and within 2 weeks i was promoted to account executive! What a major accomplishment to make leadership I thought. Not really. The promotion to account executive was essential cut and dry. Instead of working to 8:15 to 5:00 pm, I was now required to be there at 8:00, (7:45 if i wanted to be a good leader), and I was not allowed to leave until after 5:30. There you have it, a 9 1/2 hour day! Furthermore, if i had made $500 dollars that week in sales, then i usually saw about $340 if it, and after spending $80 in gas for the week and to be on the conservative side and say $30 for food in the week, well then it looks like i just made myself $230 dollars. Thats $11,960 take home pay, a year. You are not reimbursed for any gas or meals and when you ask the CEO about it he just answers verbatim, "sooooo yeahhhh ummmm, i just claimed it on my taxes". So great, i'm making $17,000 a year, working 60+ hours a week. Now that im an account executive, and I take money out of my pocket to go door to door and do the sales i am rounding out at a little under $12,000 a year. Great!

Turns out that no matter how much money you make with Philadalphia Marketing Executives, someone will always get their cut before you do. Philadelphia Marketing Executives is a Cydcor office. Yes i said it, Cydcor is a multilevel marketing scheme that is notorious for ripping people off. Just google it.
