In August of 2009, I was ripped off by the Philadelphia Parking Authority. My car was booted for tickets in the excess of 2800.00 that I only had 63.00 in responsibility for. I was asked to go to the DMV and collect lots of information regarding vehicles that were not mine that had tickets and about a vehicle that was stolen that I no longer owned that had received tickets during the time the car was stolen. I was also asked to produce paperwork showing where other tickets were dismissed or paid. I was irate when first given these directives as it appeared I was being looked at as a liar. Nonetheless, I took 3- days off work which I do not receive compensation for since I am a private contractor. I pounded the pavement to get this information. FInally, I had all the information requested only to return to the parking authority and be told I needed to pay 1700.00 or they would not remove the boot off my car. I was livid as I had the proof, but the person in front of me was refusing to look at the paperwork saying that I had already received my hearing and the verdict was in. I never had a hearing and when I tried to give the person this information, the person was very belligerent towards me and refused to listen, further summoning the awaiting security guard in the event I tried anything. I cried as my dillema was either pay the 1700 or have the car impounded which would cost even more. I contacted the Attorney General who responded saying they would not get involved with matters of this type. I then contacted a private attorney who told me that since I signed the agreement and paid the money, there was nothing I could do about it as this was considered an admission of guilt. I was done a great injustice that day and further, my credit was ruined and I have never recovered financially.
