I had my transmission remanufactured by Phoenix Remanufactured Transmissions (PRT) in June of 2007. In addition to the rebuild, I had PRT perform all of the labor with removal and replacement. The transmission was covered by a 1 year warranty. Since that time I experienced multiple failures with that transmission starting two weeks after it done. The most frequent failure was generating a code 1744. The last time it was returned for this failure in May of 2008. I received my vehicle back near the end of May. I left on vacation with the van on May 31st. Less than 1000 miles later, the next day the transmission failed massively spewing transmission fluid all over the road and my vehicle. This occurred on a Sunday. Monday June 2nd I called PRT and spoke to Gabriel. I was told they would cover the failure and to take it to a local shop for removal and replacement. They planned to rebuild the failed transmission and pay the shop to reinstall it into my van. All sounded good at this point. I left the van with a local shop, made arrangements for another vehicle and continued on my vacation. In the days that followed I tried to work the details of the repair with PRT. I was told they only cover $35 per hour for removal and replacement good luck finding someone to do that level of work for that price. The second problem I ran into, was no shop was willing to tie up their service bay while the transmission was being shipped back to PRT, rebuilt and sent back. In hind sight, this was a blessing as PRT seemed to delay every step and made many statements/promises that they did not keep. At this I continued discussions with Jim who was now taking charge of my case. June 13th, Jim agreed to send a remanufactured transmission to Cheyenne Wyoming. Jim stated that it would be sent by Monday June 16th.

I followed up and talked to Jim June 18th, 2008. He indicated that the transmission had not shipped yet, but would be shipping that following day and it was scheduled to arrive in Cheyenne on Monday, at the latest Tuesday. The shop expecting the transmission in Wyoming contacted PRT on Friday June 20th. They were given the run around when a shipping tracking number was requested and told that Jim was not available. Monday June 23rd, I called and asked for Jim. I was told that Jim was not available and was told that I would be called back. I did not receive a call back.

Tuesday June 24th, I again called and asked for the status of my shipment. The admin asked again if I could be called back. I asked for the name of who would be calling. I was told that Gabriel would call. I waited through to late Tuesday afternoon and called again. Finally at around 4 pm AZ time I was put through to Gabriel. Gabriel then told me that the transmission was held up for parts and was finally assembled, waiting for testing on the dyno. I expressed my concern that we were running out of time and expressed disappointment in the delay. Gabriel then said that he would expedite the shipment by sending it Air Freight early Wednesday morning for a latest delivery of Friday. He also said that he would call me with a shipping tracking number immediately after it was shipped. Wednesday June 25th. I had not heard from Gabriel by 3:20 pm in the afternoon, so I choose to call to get shipping status. I was placed on hold for better than 30 minutes and finally reached Gabriel. He indicated that the trans had not shipped, but would be shipped right now and he would call me back with the tracking number. I grew very concerned at this point when Gabriel had to request a shipping address again. Again, I found myself waiting for return call from Gabriel. Thursday June 26th, 1:11 pm AZ time, I had to call Phoenix Remanufactured Transmission as I did not receive a call from Gabriel yesterday. Requested Tracking number for shipment. Was provided 9147697471 UPS Shipping Date 06/26/08 - Being Shipped 2nd Day. This tracking number was not active to start with, but showed up about an hour or two later. After a day, this tracking number no longer worked on UPS site. I contacted PRT and spoke to Jim yet again. He agreed to look into where the shipment was. Jim did not call back. On July 17th I received a call from the shop in Wyoming indicating the transmission had arrived. They turned around the removal and replacement by the weekend. I contacted PRT again only to find out the Jim quit. I then spoke to the owner/president of the company Frank and he agreed to pay my fuel expenses to pick up the van due the extended delay. I made arrangements to return to Wyoming and drove the van back to Arizona. The following Monday July 21, I called PRT and was told that Frank would call me back. I continued to call PRT every business day from July 21st until July 31 at which time I sent them a FAX request. I spoke to the admin answering the phone and Gabriel multiple times, but have not received a response. This transmission failure cost me in excess of $1500 out of my pocket of which PRT agreed to pay $500. To this day, PRT still has not paid the $500 (let alone the entire cost I incurred for these failures) they committed to and does not return my calls.

I feel I was deceived at many interactions with this repair and cannot recommend dealing with PRT for any of your transmission needs I will try update this if something changes, but I am not holding my breath!!!!
