Parent company Pantellic finally makes a public statement, admits that it has ceased operations...

We've been updating members regularly over the last few weeks on the situation at online photo-sharing site PhotoPoint.com, and have been awaiting a promised response from Dale Gass, CEO of parent company Pantellic Software Inc. during this time. That response never did come through, but it appears that Mr. Gass has spoken to the folks at CNet - who have now posted an item detailing the company's demise. It makes for very interesting reading, and possibly shines a light of promise for the many readers who've emailed us to say that they've lost photos of which they have no backups.

According to CNet's item, Pantellic has ceased operations and is liquidating its assets, after a significant portion of the company's networking equipment was seized by creditors and 1.25 million PhotoPoint subscribers were left unable to contact the site. The company apparently has debts of $4.7 - $5.5 million, and is working to arrange for members to be able to retrieve their images. Once a solution has been found, members will be emailed and an announcement made at PhotoPoint.com - however as CNet point out, it isn't clear whether the company will be able to retrieve all images if much of its equipment has been seized and is no longer in its possession. Regardless though, even if only some images can be returned to their owners, this will be very welcome...
