Pimsleur sold me a 30-day Rapid Learning CD course for Spanish at the reasonable price of $10.  They stated, that in approximately 30 days after I received their rapid learning Spanish cd's, I would be receiving their Gold Level Spanish course with No Obligations whatsoever.  If I didn't like it within 30 days, all I had to do was call an 800 number and return the Gold Level course - and pay for the return shipping.  At no time did they mention the price of the Gold Level I Spanish course.  When it arrived, I found that it was the first level of four Gold Level Spanish courses - each of which would be billed in four equal payments of $64.00, or 16 payments of $64.00 for a total of $1,024.00!

I immediately called the 800 number to cancel the "add-on" Gold Level order and to obtain a return authorization.  The Pimsleur representative attempted to dissuade me from making the return and offered to extend the "free-trial" period to 60 days, versus the original 30 days.  I refused that offer and stated that I just wanted to cancel and return the Gold Level product.  I was then placed on hold while the representative was processing the return authorization number.  After I received the return authorization number, I was instructed to return the product using USPS Media Mail because it is the least expensive means of return.

However, after consideration of the fact that Stroll (the fulfillment firm for Pimsleur) has my credit card information from the initial $10 Rapid Learning CD Spanish course and after reading several reviews about the credit cards of Pimsleur/Stroll customer's being charged even after they had returned the product, I am going to ship it registered, return receipt with tracking.  I do not have a good feeling about Pimsleur/Stroll and the deceptive practice of not informing the consumer up front that the total cost they may incur is $1,024.  This is clearly "Caveat Emperor", let the buyer beware for you know not what you may be getting into.
