My wife were looking for a nice rental in Maine. We saw Pine State Property's listing for a condo. We have a dog and the listing clearly said it accepts dogs. It says this on their Craigslist post as well as their main site's listing. I have several images which show the listings that say dogs allowed and there is no disclaimer. The site just says to apply. So my wife and I applied and each had to pay $40 for the application fee. The lady emailed the next day and said sorry, dogs aren't allowed. She told us she was going to let Mike at Pine State know and that we wanted a refund. He never called. I called him twice and sent an email, he never bothered responding. I finally got a hold of him today and he was rude and unhelpful. He said, no refund and there is a disclaimer and most people call before applying. That's great, but their website doesn't say to call to see if the information is correct, it just asks you to submit an application.

I checked the site and there is a disclaimer now (there wasn't before all of this as you can see in my images).

I think it's sad that this company wants to falsely advertise and then keep your money. I have a better business bureau complaint open to try to get my full refund of $80, so we'll see how they handle this. I'm glad they added a disclaimer now, but it wasn't there before and we shouldn't be out money because of their shady business practice and false advertising.

Our apologies that you feel this way...

AUTHOR: Mike - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, November 19, 2017

Bryan we apologize that you feel that way. Unfortunately, as it was explained to you, our rental ads get syndicated to many different rental websites, such as Zillow, Truila, Hotpads etc. Sometimes there are information gaps between the platforms so sometimes an ad on a rental search website will show pets are accepted, when they are not actually accepted for that particular rental. We try to ensure that all our rental ads contain accurate information but we do not always have control over other platforms. That is why our ads have a disclaimer on them.

Application fees are non-refundable, but we did explain to you that they are good for 6 months, so if you found another one of our places, that was pet friendly, within a 6 month time period, there would not be an additional application fee. We also spoke to your wife and assisted her in locating comparable properties that did accept pets.

Again, we apologize that you feel as though we were falsely advertising in order to get your money, but the application fee money does not actually go to us. We wish you much luck with your rental search.
