When I first checked in the office reeked of marijuana. The owner Conrad Matt was obviously high as a kite. I should've taken this as a sign to get out, but it was too late to find anything else.
Getting a good night's sleep was out of the question as drunken backpackers were up all night making noise. When we woke up the next morning my kids and I were covered in bug bites. I later found pictures online of bed bug bites that looked exactly the same as ours.
Apparently the bugs got in our clothing or bags because now we have them in our home.
Stay far away from this place!

Pirate Haus Inn -- St. Augustine, Florida:
When presented with concerns, owner appeared full of smug half-baked answers and excuses, demonstrating a low level of responsibility when confronted. His abrupt impatience was unprofessional, as well.
He apparently cares far more about his own time than anyone else's, although we did notice he can put on a good front; not the preferred attitude of a small business owner. Personal responsibility and better attention to basic details and commitments is what I usually find with good small businesses, but not this time. An owner who'd rather point a finger than take responsibility will generally find that tendency to hurt his own success. We will not be back.

1. I haven't smoked dope since high school. I'm willing to take a drug test any day of the week. I think it should be decriminalized though.
2. We don't have bed bugs. While any hotel can get bed bugs (Google Hyatt and Bed Bugs), we know what to look for and inspect daily. The building does have termites, and they can be seen May/June when they swarm, and they don't bite.
3. The anonymous complaint filed the same complaint under google reviews under an account by the name of 'Mike Adcock' from the Tampa Area. I reviewed our guest records and we never had anyone with the last name of 'Adcock' stay here.
So obvoiusly I must've wronged this guy somehow, but as a firm believer in Karma, I'm not sure what I've done.
