While visiting my mother, we ate a chicken dish at a local pizza hut. That evening we both got very sick at nearly the same time. This sickness lasted for several days and even resulted in a case of jaundice for me. We both were so violently sick that we talked the next day and found out that we shared nearly the exact symptoms--for the same duration--and started at nearly the same time.

On over 20 separate occasions I called, faxed or wrote every company(and president)involved. I contacted NPC International (the franchiser of most of the Illinois Pizza Hut's) . I faxed the president there--and received no response. I faxed the president of Tricon-Global (they own Pizza Hut)--no response. I faxed the president of Pizza Hut--Michael Rawlings office and called on over 6 separate occasions...no response until a couple of weeks ago.

I finally had someone from their "claims office" contact me. She was from the Cunningham Lindsey office (insurance). She informed me that Pizza Hut would not apologize for something like this--as they would not want to accept "liability". She stated that I had no right to a "claim" as I did not have proof of the type of food poisoning... Even though I had gone to the emergency room... had received medical expenses as a result of eating their food, even though I had a phone bill of a SIZABLE proportion for months trying to resolve this, even though I only originally contacted them just to receive an apology--to no avail, I received no help from Pizza Hut.

Even though I even volunteered to the president of the company to HELP THEM, if necessary with their process of receiving complaints and resolving problems--I still got no response.

If you eat at Pizza Hut restaurants--you should do so at your own risk. It took me months to even get contacted by their insurance company--when they told me it should have happened within 24 hours. Why would anyone eat at a facility or organization that will not stand behind their product? I never even received a form letter.

I had the supervisor of the 1-800 number complaint line--tell me their was nothing else she could do for me--as they would not return her messages either... Restaurants have a greater responsibility then to throw food in my direction. I want to eat at a facility that is more concerned with professional etiquette and good customer service--than liability concerns.

I ate this food--and had my problems from eating this food--my second week at a new job. I lost a lot of money from this--and only expected an apology at first. I couldn't even get that...my food cost $13.00--that was not even offered to be refunded. I was offered a $10 coupon the first time I called them--to eat there again. Is that bad taste or what? Why would I want to eat there again??? My face was still yellow from eating their first dish...

Eat at Pizza Hut at your own risk---Pizza Hut, NPC International and Tricon Global(Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell) will not stand behind their product, they will ignore you when you get sick or try to tell them what has happened to you...they will try to wait you out until you go away... You will leave voice mail messages with so many people that you will feel that you know all of them personally. They will pass you off from voice mail to voice mail, they will pass you off from company to company, they will pass you by and ignore you--because after all--you are only one small customer to a very large organization--they won't help you--because you cannot do anything to them.

It sickens me to realize how much money I lost as a result of medical bills, lost salary and the health problems I suffered for so long...but it does not sicken me near as much as knowing how many people are putting their health at risk--by eating at those establishments....

Getting sick at Taco Bell? this is only a question...

AUTHOR: Hodson Belcher - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 17, 2009

...not a complaint.  But I read the report here about the people getting sick at Taco Bell and i'm sorry to hear that.   hope the parties involved have recovered.

This is not a complaint, because I don't eat there anymore even tho their stuff tastes pretty good.  But, two or three times i have heard/read (in one case from a former cook at TB who enjoyed his job before going off to college) stating that TB's taco's ground meat product contains only 26% beef or beef products finely ground and the other 74% is allegedly non-meat fillers.  The allegation was that at the time TB had managed to keep this highly secret from the public and the employees were sworn on their grandchildrens' graves (if they had any) to never reveal this secret outside the TB outlets or their kitchens.   further, it was claimed that the employees never knew/know what the filler is made of.  The ultra-fine grinding of the "meat" in their tacos is part of the mixture and or alleged concealment process making the supposed filler very difficult to detect by the average consumer.

i suspect some public attention might have found it's way to this question when it was revealed that some PRC Chinese food exporters were mixing formaldehyde treated cardboard (discards), finely ground up, into small amounts of pork into their meat pastry products sold in the USA/Canada and EU.  These products were yanked off the shelves at least in the USA along with tainted pet foods.

This Taco Bell question is intriguing and for the few, very few times i've bought their products I've never gotten sick.

"Food Poisoning" I doubt it...

AUTHOR: Uwewho - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, October 08, 2009

I think it's pretty safe to say that food safety is a topic that is taken very seriously at both NPC and Pizza Hut, and I assure you that reports of food poisoning at any of their locations are not in any way ignored. You would have a pretty tough time finding a restaurant anywhere that would agree with you that they were the cause of your food poisoning in this case, especially with a story like this one... When two family members get sick at the same time about ninety-five percent of the time it's going to be some type of virus, like the cold or flu, not food poisoning. Also, if it did happen to be some type of food-borne illness, there would most definitely have been complaints from a second party that became sick as well. You put these both together and probobly more than ninety-nine percent of the cases like this one are not going to be related to food poisoning of any kind. They were just being nice when you were offered a ten dollar coupon. To be totally honest, had you actually been sick from eating their food, the hospital would have been able to tell you that for sure, as well as what exactly it was that you had, so you wouldn't be having to call all of these different offices, because your lawyer would be doing it for you. If you want to avoid getting this "food poisoning" of yours again in the future, try getting a flu shot...

Resturant first one to be blamed in illnesses

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 21, 2005

Hello All!! First of all this one is for Stephanie - La Mirada, California. The Buff. Chicken topping was reacalled by our food distributer McClain. It was a problem that accured at the factory. Which brings me to my first point. All of the food at my NPC owned Pizza Hut is all precooked. About the only thing that isn't is the dough, and the fresh veggies that are cut every day .

The second point I have to make is this: First reactions for people when they get sick is where did we eat at last? Was it at home or take out? People assume that if they eat at home that they are same from food poisoning. This is not true. It has always been Urban Legend for a resturant to make you sick. It is the first thing people think of when they get sick. "Well I didnt prepare it so they must have made me sick." This is a common human conqlusion. I'm not saying that some resturants food handling proceedures leave alot to be desired. I agree with the replier that said when you go to a resturant look at the empoyees. The ones that look profesional are the resturants that look you should be eating at.

Pat, employee of a great Pizza Hut resturant :)

what to look for in restaurantsto avoid food poisoning

AUTHOR: Peppe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 04, 2004

look at all the employees. do any have ripped or dirty clothes? do any have open cuts? do they speak english ? most of all food poisoning cases happen in restaurants where there is at least 1 person who cann't speak english. a lot of times they do not even have the basic concept of proper food handling there have been cases where they go to visit there home country and come back with hepat. a or worse , to them they only think about being a worker who is there all the time and not thinking about health issues. or a manager will try to tell this person to do a simple task and it gets mixed up do to the translation. for instance a woprker is suppost to fill up salt shakers well since he cann't read or speak english he puts sugar or even worse powder soap in the shaker. how can anyone who has never eaten the food they are preparing even knows how the food is to look like or even know if it smells right .

Dainon - Me too! I experienced the same nausea/diarrhea all night long that you described

AUTHOR: Polly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 19, 2004

On Sunday, Oct. 3, my husband and I ordered a deep dish pepperoni pizza from a local Pizza Hut. I ate two pieces (which is less than I usually can eat) and had to rush to the bathroom. I experienced the same nausea/diarrhea all night long that you described. I DID end up taking the following day off of work because I lost so much sleep over it, and I was still feeling ill on Monday morning. My muscles ached for at least 4 days after all of the cramping and heaving I did. It was a horrible experience that I attributed to a 24 hour virus.

I finally gave in and ordered pizza again on Oct. 17, this time from Donato's. We once again got a pepperoni pizza. I had exactly the same results that night. Pizza is officially off my diet now.
Dainon, I advise you not to eat pizza from anywhere until you have a very open schedule for a few days! I didn't take a day off work this time, but my muscles are all achy still.

I don't think it's advisable to blame the pizza store unless both Pizza Hut and Donatos are owned by the same parent company. Perhaps there is a pepperoni supplier somewhere out there who isn't doing their job well?

The Parent Company has no integrity, horrifying reports of animal cruelty, slave-like treatment

AUTHOR: A - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 11, 2004

I have seen (on major network broadcast news) and read horrifying reports of animal cruelty at the companies that provide this company (Tricon-global, parent of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut) with its chicken. I have also heard reports of slave-like treatment of the workers who harvest the tomatoes which Tricon buys.

You have learned this too late: It's folly to expect decent treatment from a business that doesn't care how its suppliers run their operations. The lack of integrity at Tricon is pretty clear - don't make the mistake of thinking a company will suddenly start acting right at the customer level. From the outset - in the tomato fields and the chicken houses - Tricon poisons its product. Everyone who eats there is supporting something tainted, but only some of us get sick.

7 hours of hell

AUTHOR: Dainon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 07, 2004

I have been ordering pizza from Pizza Hut for years without any problems. Perhaps some squished pizzas from time to time but nothing serious. This past Saturday, I ordered a big New Yorker for delivery. Normally I can eat 5 slices but this time I had trouble with the second. I finished the third piece without enjoying the slice and had to lay down. I was not feeling so great.

Within 30 minutes of laying on my bed, I felt I needed to vomit. I threw up and had diarreah for seven hours where I was in the bathroom every 10 minutes. I have never thrown up so hard in my life. I have been sick before and this was the worst.

With all of my musscles cramping trying to throw up bright yellow bile I am still sore today. It is now Tuesday and I am miserable at work. I feel like I have a fever because of my muscle soreness. I need to lift boxes with electronic in them and cannot. I am contimplating loosing a day of work. Thank you Pizza Hut.

I have not contacted Pizza Hut because I believe if you want to be safe from food poisoning you should cook for yourself. This way you only have yourself to blame. Accidents happen and Pizza Hut produces how may pizzas a year, with how many reported illnesses? I imagine the statistics are low.

Hey EDitor! April is utterly confused .. help her out in here!

AUTHOR: Nancy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 18, 2004

O April, how could David and I be the same person when we just together in person last month when he got down to my part of the state?

Why is it on all the reports you have typed in, you always start accusing people of all being one certain person who's out to get you every time you start losing a fight you'd started?

ED, the EDitor of this website has talked to David and I on the phone on a 3-way call. I'm assuming you will trust it's the truth if he indeed tells you we are two separate people.

Really it's very easy. David is 6' 3" and I am 5' even. He's the tall one, I'm the short one .. we both are bullheaded, opinionated, and cute. :)

Food Poisoning Has a 48-Hour Incubation Period

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 16, 2004

Food poisoning has no less than a 48-hour inubation period. If you did contracy food poisoning, it wasn't a few hours after eating at Pizza Hut.

From the British Government's own site at http://www.hart.gov.uk/environ/envhealth/foodsafety/foodpoisoning.htm:

"Incubation period (the time it takes from eating the suspected food until symptoms begin) - 1-10 days, usually 2-5 days"

GET TESTED FOR HEPATITIS A IMMEDIATELY..

AUTHOR: Sherri, RN, FNP - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 16, 2004

In cases of food poisoning resulting in jaundice, it is quite often caused by the virus Hepatitis A (which is a much milder form than C, but can still cause significant problems if untreated.) It can be transmitted by food preparers who do not wash their hands properly after using the bathroom.

Food Poisoning Symptoms:

Symptoms of food poisoning depend on the type of contaminant and the amount eaten. The symptoms can develop rapidly, within 30 minutes, or slowly, worsening over days to weeks. Most of the common contaminants cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping. Usually food poisoning is not serious, and the illness runs its course in 24-48 hours.

Viruses account for most food poisoning cases where a specific contaminant is found.

Hepatitis A: Causes mild illness with sudden onset of fever, loss of appetite, and feeling of tiredness followed by jaundice, which is a yellowing of the eyes and skin. It is transmitted from person to person by fecal contamination of food.

Your ER physician or Primary Care Physician can get the necessary labs, as well as probably running an LFT (liver function test).

Good luck.

Double-edged sword... pizza hut employees automatically take pizza hut's side

AUTHOR: Aaron - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2004

I've read how all you pizza hut employees automatically take pizza hut's side. If you'll notice, not one single driver or cook shares your cliche' responses. I wonder why?

In my past experience with pizza hut (AMERIHUTS), I have seen people get sick from the food. I've also seen people use this as an excuse to get free food. Pizza hut created this problem themselves by being so willing to give something for free while taking away from their delivery drivers. I've seen kids spit in non-tippers food along with putting "other" things in the food. IT DID HAPPEN. I actually saw sauce being prepared in the mop sink during my most recent tour of duty. Managers at pizza hut could care less. They simply don't keep an eye on their employees. As long as they don't have to work then everythings just peachy. I've also seen managers work 25 hours in a week, but according to payroll they worked 50. These folks are the example?

I'm not defending anybody in this post. Simply put, PIZZA HUT either made some people sick or the people are trying to get something for free. Either way, it's pizza hut's fault.

BE HEALTHY! Don't eat at pizza hut! Be independently resourceful and prepare your own food at home! Your heart will thank you for it!

Mother, Daughter, Joel and Pizza Hut..

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 09, 2004

Joel:
As a long time reader, it surprises me that you would use the verbiage that you use! Holding back is a strong show of patients. One can release with out being negative.

My focus by far is nothing close to as you say "narrow". I have been involved in this site for a long time as a Fairbanks victim. This being said, I have read and seen things that should not be said or posted. However, freedom of speech is a given right, not to be censored!

This website has and will with stand anything that comes it's way. To reefer to the site as being infected with cancer is simply incorrect. Cancer is a very ugly disease that causes great harm to persons and animals, not to websites.

It was seems that you are being some what of a hypocrite by demeaning April and whom ever else you are referring to. This site is dedicated to "HELPING" those who have been victimized by another. As far as shame is concerned, one could easily say that you too should be shamed for being so harsh with your opinion. However, you do have that right of speaking freely.

Then you use the word provocateur to say shame of those you are referring to. Do you have facts to show that their means are criminal and that they "in fact" mean to be deceptive? If so lay them out so that I as well as others can understand why you are being so reprehensive on the issue.

April:
Please "DO NOT" take this as a means of defending you, by far I am not. Opinions are like.....well you know! I am tired of people degrading others for some thing that in fact occurred to them as the person. As well, for giving their personal opinion. If in fact you are a marauder, then I too agree shame on you..but if you are speaking with honestly then please continue to speak freely.

By far in this posting it is clear that everyone forgot the persons that were harmed! We are not hear to defend the site or the accused but to "try" and help to give "honest" advise to the victim on what they may or may not be able to do.

To conclude this post, To the mother and daughter I do pray that your health is back or better than it was. Only you know what happened in this matter and only you know the "truth" to it. Follow with the truth if it is so....carry on never stop even when there will be those you want you to and try to bring you down. Fire back stand proud and strong to defend your self being.

Pizza Hut Sickness

AUTHOR: Stephanie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 08, 2004

Dear All,

Although there is an on-going dispute here of people can get sick/and cant get sick, I confirm that you can get sick.I work for a Pizza Hut in California, and to tell you the honest truth,Pizza Hut recently had a promo with the Buffalo Chicken Pizza which ran for a couple weeks but is now retired until it becomes a hot item again.

Now back to the core of this conversation, When the Buffalo Chicken came out our crew at PH tried the new product and was facinated by the delicious taste. As the days went by and the sales begin to rise for this new product, I recall comming home one sunday nite and had trouble sleeping as well as trouble with my stomach, earlier that day my co-workers and I had our employee meals and loved the chicken so much we each had some on our pizza's. That nite I kept wondering what was wrong with me I felt quesy and a bit dizzy. The nite felt never-ending since I started to throw-up and thought this chicken really did me in.

The next day I came to my boss and told him about the horrible experience I had that nite before, and come to find that all our chicken was thrown away. Why do you ask? because Tricon had many complaints about people becoming sick over the chicken and had recalled this product for half a week. After that half week Tricon sent us the new chicken which had been reinvented.

It was may I say better than the first chicken(from what customers told me)but I dont think anyone could just have an automatic aussumption to food illness's that cant exsist because they do. I speak the truth and if it happened to many people as well than Im not just imagining making anything up.

Health Department Can Step In

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 20, 2004

When ever there is an issue regarding food poisoning, you need to contact your local health department, which will give you a phone number to enviromental services. Those people will actually go out to the company and run an inspection to see if there are any health concerns. Also you should have kept a piece of the pizza, put it in a plastic ziploc bag and enviromental services would have tested that slice of pizza for free to let you know what bacteria had made you sick.
My whole family ate pizza from a pizza place once and we all got sick. I called the next day the health department and they gave me a phone # to call, they went and inspected this pizza place and this company is now closed down. You can get food poisoning from fast food places and you can also get hepatitis A, you read about it all the time. If you were fine before you ate the pizza and you shared it with another person and they also got sick hours after you ate it, then more than likely you did develop food poisoning.

you should go to the ER and have a bacteria run on you

AUTHOR: Tammy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 22, 2003

The author of this original report had said that she and her mother had gotten sick on the chicken dish. She should have gone to the emergency room with her mother. It was possible that the chicken had not been completely cooked and it had Salmonella in it. That is the only thing I could think of. The emergency room upon finding traces of the E-coli bacteria would have then contacted the health department where there would have been an investigation.

Sometimes the deep fryer for chicken was not set correctly or had broken down. Any time someone feels that they got sick from a restuarant, you should go to the ER and have a bacteria run on you to rule out the salmonella food poisoning.

I hope this helps.

POSTED: Thursday, August 21, 2003

Joel,

I, like you, have been reading these reports for some time now. I don't respond often. I just can't get a read on April. On some reports, she seems to have some rather good ideas or suggestions, or at least comments, but on others, she's a total whack job. She makes claims that this young lady could not get Jaudnice, but in her report on IHOP, her child getting burned by gravy caused the Autisum. I am not making light of the fact that her child may be ill, but it seems her attitude is, "I am the only one who tells the truth".

April,
No, I am not Pegleg, or Shawanagunk or any of the others, I'm just someone who sits and reads these. Also, please note, I did say that you seem to have some valid/good ideas or comments from time to time. Other times, well, I just leave it at that.

Joe, you have only scratched the surface of what is at stake here... & April, You are a provocateur!

POSTED: Wednesday, August 20, 2003

Long time reader, first-time poster. I can not hold back anymore.

From a narrower focus you are correct in sticking up for the poor individual who was first wronged and then had her complaints ignored by the offender. What is really at stake here is the sanctity of this pure and great website, which over the last 6 months has been contaminated by two cancers, one named April, the other (among other aliases) called Shawangunk. The possibility that they are one and the same has not been ruled out.

April, your posts on this site can lead to but one conclusion: you mean only harm. You have failed in your attempts to convince us you are an advocate, and have now taken to shilling for these pathetic corporations in order to destroy this site. You are a provocateur! The only way to deal with a provocateur is to shame you. Since it is apparent you have no shame I suppose we will have to deal with your prevarications. But you're being watched and will not be allowed to rampage through here untrammeled!

DID YOU FOR GET WHAT THIS WAS FOR

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 19, 2003

I am setting here reading all of this and I can not believe that the others manly April would want to give a "Medical" observation, unless she is a Doctor. In which if she is then you have valid point to what you are saying. Then again if you are not, you should not be giving out any kind of Medical definitions. Further, everyone keeps questioning the intelligence of the other. What is the reason for this. This is to be about the young lady and her mother who became ill.

None of us can testify to what happened to either of them or the illness that occurred. She states they went to the Emergency Room for medical attention. That should be all that needs to be said. If in fact the Emergency Room told her what she is saying, then it is no fault of hers that she makes these statement that were given to her incorrectly.

What this file is about is the sickness of persons that occurred after eating at Pizza Hut. This is what we should be speaking about. Why not ask her what the Emergency Room told her. Then all of you can stop trying to give Medical Information that you should not be given, unless you are in "fact" a Medical Doctor. Not a one of use knows the pain her and her mother went through with what ever illness did hit them. I too am sorry to hear that they became ill.

If in fact is was due to the cause of bad food serving from Pizza Hut, then they should answer her on her questions she has asked. What they have done is to totally ignore her.

At a very young age I worked for Pizza Hut and saw things happened that should not have happened. It was very possible that the things I saw would in "fact" make people sick. That was 18 years ago and I would hope that Pizza Hut would have corrected many of those issues that I saw. It is very easy to see that in "fact" Pizza Hut is having many different problems with there restaurants. Just look at the front page of rip off and see that file.

I again am sorry to hear that the young lady and her mother became ill. I hope that they are feeling better as of today. I am sorry that Pizza Hut chose not to even consider that they may be the cause of the illness that you and your mother had. They lack greatly in the Customer Service filed and have always. If you have the paper work from the E.R. showing what you say to be true, then that is what you have to go forward with. If not and this is what you that occurred or caused the 2 of you to become ill, then Pizza Hut may not be at fault. I am not sure, only you know the truth in what did happen. For the others stop fighting with each other about who is more intelligent. This is not about any of you it is about her and her mother.

Now you're from Austin, TX, what did you move in the mist of stalking me? You are way off. Know your facts first and formost. You have tried to make faulse medical claims many times in rebuttaling to someone's post.

The woman said she had Jaundice, impossible. AGAIN, Jaundice comes from other dieases. Who the HELL told you something as stupid as Jaundice can come from a hot/cold shower, etc? You need to talk to a real doctor. This is a BS post, plain and simple. This did not and could not have happend to this person. Mike, why don't you check something as simple as www.webmd.com, before opening your mouth again.

April,

The jaundice you are referring to is known as "Neonatal" jaundice which is said to occur in 80% of pre-term babies and 50% of term babies. One of your intelligience (as you say) should know that.

There are other form like symptoms of Jaundice that one can experience or they would not refer to easing the symptoms such as hot/cold showers, eating of certain dietry foods, drinking of certain liquids, avoiding fatty foods and so on. Surely you would not expect an infant to jump into the shower or be put on a diet avoiding what is needed in order to grow. It's probable the originator may have had what was said and then again maybe not. Of course she would be the one to know what she had since she went to the Emergency room (being diagnosed)and not you. So she has the benefit of the doubt on that.

Well either way its water under the bridge and I just thought I would correct you as someone tried too. Remember to always have all facts before blurting out something. Jaundice is not just an illness for infants!

Food poisoning is not fun, I've experienced it a few times.

regards,
medically inclined

At Pizza Hut we have strict regulations on cleaning and food preparation.

AUTHOR: Mandy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 30, 2003

I have worked for Pizza Hut, NPC Ineternational Inc. for five years now. In all of my five years I have never heard of such things happening.

I have had someone call to tell me that the sausage gave them the runs and they were on the toilet all night, but it was probably a prank.

At Pizza Hut we have strict regulations on cleaning and food preparation. We have an OPS manager that comes to each store in his section every six months, unexpectedly, and check everything from weeds growning outside to how well we cut pizza. He is very picky. This is something the company doesn't have to do because we get inspected by the state too. Basically they do this to cover their a*s.

Just because he comes only every six months it doesn't mean we can slack off in the mean time. We always have unexpected visits from all kinds of "higher-ups" so we have to be on our toes.

I expect that you were not the only one to eat chicken from that particular store that day. Why don't you put an add in your local paper to see if anyone else got that sick. Then make your case, because if you were the only two people to get sick then you have no case. You need more proof that it was the chicken dish you ate.

Oh, and jaundice is not something only babies get. I'm also a nursing major and know there are other causes like alcoholism and disorders of the liver that can cause jaundice, but I've never heard of food poising of being a cause.

To Jessica: Wrong!

POSTED: Sunday, July 27, 2003

Ok, what you may have read in some book or on the web just proves my point entirely. I am intelligent and I DO know what I am speaking about.

Like I said, this poster claims she developed Jaundice. Impossible, again, ONLY babies can be born with this. Secondly, like I said, she may have developed a Jaundice discoloring, but obviously had not. Like I made very clear, she claimed this was a result of food poisoning. The only food poisoning that MAY have caused a Jaundice discoloring would have been E. Coli.

I did not get into specifics about the breakdown of red blood cells or anything else, because quite frankly, it doesnt have a baring here and I doubt very seriously anyone wanted to take the time for a medical lesson.

The fact of the matter is, she would have been dead by now if she was as sick as she expressed. It wold have been a result of her Kidney becoming septic. The other diseases and disorders contributing to a Jaundice discoloration would NOT be of any matter in this. NO other condition would be a result of food poisoning, Alcohol poisoning, YES, BUT NOT food poison! And I did point out some of those disorders.

So, dont you have something better to do? I can assure you I know exactly what I am talking about; I DO hold several degrees!

April, get your facts straight.....

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 26, 2003

april, although you TRY to sound intelligent, you miss the boat. Jaundice is actually an bnormal condition in which the body fluids and tissues, particularly the skin and eyes, take on a yellowish color as a result of an excess of bilirubin. During the normal breakdown of old erythrocytes (red blood cells), their hemoglobin is converted into bilirubin. Normally the bilirubin is removed from the bloodstream by the liver and eliminated from the body in the bile , which passes from the liver into the intestines. There are several conditions that may interrupt the elimination of bilirubin from the blood and cause jaundice. Hemolytic jaundice is caused by excessive disintegration of erythrocytes; it occurs in hemolytic and other types of anemia and in some infectious diseases like malaria. Another type of jaundice results from obstruction in or about the liver; usually a stone or stricture of the bile duct blocks the passage of bile from the liver into the intestines. A third type of jaundice occurs when the liver cells are damaged by diseases such as hepatitis or cirrhosis of the liver; the damaged liver is unable to remove bilirubin from the blood. Treatment of jaundice is directed to the underlying cause. Many instances of obstructive jaundice may require surgery.

OK, anyone can tell you that Pizza Huts customer service leaves very little to be desired. But there is something that just isnt right about this report. You see, if you had food poisoning to be sick for several days, which would mean you were infected with E. Coli. The problem with this is the simple fact that only two people became sick. Also, it usually takes a good 12 to 24 for E. Coli. To develop in someones bloodstream to make them this sick to need emergency treatment.

Now, heres where you report gets even more bizarre; You stated you were so sick that you developed a case of Jaundice. Ok, first, thats impossible, only infants can be born with Jaundice. So NO doctor would have told you such. However, you may have developed Jaundice discoloring of the skin. But, again, I dont think so. I believe you may have become pale from being sick, maybe even flush, but you did not have a Jaundice discoloring. Why do I not believe you? For the simple fact that the only way you could have developed this was more than a week later when you would not still be here to write this report. You see, the Jaundice discoloring would have been from Chronic Kidney Failure and this would only have appeared at the point of irreversible damage, and you would have soon there after, died. So, that obviously didnt happen.

Secondly, any hospitals ER would have known if this were a result of food poisoning. How? Because if you really went to the ER after being so sick, they would have placed you on an IV and then done blood work to find the leading cause of your illness, in so instances, they may have even done a sonogram on your abdomen to check for bleeding, kidney failure, liver failure, etc. Finally, the hospital would have written this up as food poisoning if it were that. Apparently not, since you dont seem to have proof of such.

I am sorry you were sick, but it wasnt the restaurants fault. This may have come from something you ate the night before or maybe you were exposed to a smell that made you sick, who knows. Yes, restaurants do not care about the customers; they care only about the money. Ive known someone that had to have his stomach pumped because Little Caesars delivered him a pizza with staples baked in. They were sued. I have a son that was injured as a result of restaurants negligence. So, for the two rebuttalists, this does happen, and more than you know. But in this case, that wasnt what occurred.

Oh, one more thing, why would you believe you had food poisoning when you seem to be the only two eating there that developed this illness? Again, sorry you were sick and Pizza Hut has been rude, to say the least. But, this was not food poisoning. If it were, believe me, Id be the first to tell you.

I myself am terribley sorry to hear of this incident.

I'm an assistant manager at a Pizza Hut, and offer you my apology. Though I can't do much for you, especially since I have no clue where your experience happened.

Though I can say that in the 2 years I've worked in our store I've not once heard of anybody getting sick from our food, I do know that there are reasons we are as careful as we are with our food preparation. The incident you speak of is probably a prime example of those reasons.

Again I'm terribly sorry you had the experience you had.

Sincerely,
