I ordered a $20 pizza from PizzaHut in Portage, IN on 1/9/09. The driver took a very long time for delivery, then arrived in a very rude & upset mood. I filled out the credit card slip and the tip, and he huffed and complained about the small tip. Keep in mind they charge $2.95 for delivery charge already! The driver left and we ordered another pizza shortly after. They sent the same driver and once again he complained about the tip I left him. This time he told me to "F*** Off". I called the manager and she refused to compensate or do ANYTHING for me, after $40 worth of pizza. We order from this PizzaHut on a regular basis with no problems normally. This is ridiculous and I have never been treated this way from a restraunt in my life. I am amazed that a good customer like myself would be treated this way with no compensation or anything done about the problem. Good Luck PizzaHut, you have officially stopped my business with you. I will be sure to spread the word.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Ugh..

AUTHOR: ThatGuy - (United States of America)

Having been a manager for this company for 3 years in New Hampshire, I can say that this rebuttal is wrong.  Pizza Hut hires the cheapest and worst help they can, do to the fact that they refuse to train or give a d**n about the customer.

Repeat: Pizza Hut does not give a d**n about the customer.

Yes, the tips suck, and you're forced to put up with crabby customers, but ultimately, now matter how bad of a day you're having or how made you are, you make your own money.  Late?  Your fault.  Bad food?  Too bad, you're the first contact.  That's the nature of the business.  Sucks, but it's true.  Best thing to do is get a driver job at a mom and pop operation.  Big box pizza chains are horrible quality anyway.  Can you really expect to do well delivering frozen pizza?  Believe me, start by changing your attitude and I guarantee, you'll do at least a little better.  My ultimate advice, ditch the Hut and get in with someone else.

As for the original report?  That's what you get when you go to a coporate chain.  Give the mom and pop shops your business.  9 times out of 10 they do have the quality and care about their customers.

First off, that 2.95 Delivery? A dollar, or less, goes to the driver. Most of it goes directly to Pizza Hut Corporate, and it helps to pay their "insurance" fees that cover the cost it may cause them if a driver is in an accident whilst on the job.

Also, when ordering two pizzas in one night, and tipping poorly both times, did you really expect him to be grateful that you could not order both pizzas at once? And save him the second trip to your home to only receive a slightly less than gratifying tip?

Believe me - customers who are nice to the employees receive much better treatment.

HOWEVER. the manager is obligated in some ways to oblige the customer. I can almost understand the rude driver, but the management team should be used to it by now. PizzaHut.Com has an online function for complaints that goes directly to the RGM of each store. I suggest if you have problems, other than whining here on ROR, you go there and do something about it. The manager you spoke to on the phone was probably a shift manager, not the store manager.

Sincerely,
Hoof.

I have noticed the declining state of affairs with Pizza Hut over the past couple of years as well. They will most likely drive themselves into bankruptcy soon, unless they VASTLY improve their customer service.

You Should Take Certain Things Into Consideration

AUTHOR: Stanley - (U.S.A.)

First of all, you should realize Sir, there is a lot of unnecessary stress in being a delivery pizza man. I should know. I've been doing this for a number of years now. I gave up a worthy career as a private investigator for a prestigious Beverly Hills law firm to do what I've always wanted to do as a young boy-which is deliver pizzas. My training ground was in Pony, Alabama, where I had the misfortune of working day watch where I was assigned the route of delivering pizza's to the town's Chief of Police, James Browne on a daily-yes, I did say daily, not weekly basis.

This fat slob would order double sausage and extra cheese on thick crust every morning at 11:00 am, complete with two large big gulp cups of Coca-Cola to be delivered to his office no later than 11:45 am. If the delivery was late, and quite often it was, considering the traffic congestion at that hour, Chief Browne would throw a fit of temper if the pizzas were not cooked to his perfection by yelling and screaming in a fit of rage and would sweep his arm across his desk in temper knocking everything off his desk right in front of his command staff. And nobody did a thing about it. Now, I ask you, is that good public relations for a police chief to behave?

Yet, when I politely hinted about a well-deserved tip for my trouble, he looked out his window, saw my delivery truck parked on the red zone below and ordered his local city Parking Enforcement officers to issue me a citation for a red zone violation! And further more, I discovered the pizzas were paid for out of city funds. To add further insult to injury, Chief James Browne of Pony Alabama would also have pizza delivery to his home residence, again at city tax payers expense.

We take a lot of abuse, not so much from the demanding customers like you, but from the traffic congestion and time constraints in trying to get your pizza delivered to your door while it's still steaming hot. So please think carefully while you bash Pizza Hut or any other pizza delivery company.

Sincerely,

Stanley.
