Taking in free horses and putting them up for sale for profit.   Claiming to be a rescue.   Fund raising to care for the free horses to sell for profit.   Quarantining horses for real rescues and inflating costs for profit.    Praying on the misfortune of horse owners that can no longer care for their animals by talking them into signing over ownership, then selling the horses for profit.   This place is dealing horses not rescuing them as they claim.     Shipping sick horses, claiming young horses are older than they.   Knowing the breed of a horse and lieing to people to what breed they are.

I have worked with this person and have known her for years.    She is not honest and will say and do anything to get what she wants and to make money.     She told me to talk a friend of mine into signing over their well trained horse they paid a lot of $$$ for so she could re-home it.   I was involved with hauling some owner sign over horses.   The ladies husband was dieing of cancer and could no long care for all the horses.    She took three horses and three minis, sent one horse back because she told me she could not home something like that and was going to put the horse down.

I took the horse back to the lady, the horse was 20 and had one eye.     The poor horse could not adjust to the move, that is all that was wrong with her.    So if it not sell able she does not want to deal with it.   She had dealing with a rescue to Quarantine their horses.    Then over charged them for round bales of hay because two of her friends rescues horses were eating off the same round bales.   Told the rescue that the two draft horse ate 5 round bales of hay in 2 1/2 weeks.    The rescue ask me to remove the horses, and keep them till we could get them moved.

The two draft horses have been here for 4 days and have only ate 1/2 of a round bale.   The truth speaks for it's self.   Now she will not talk to me and give me one of my rescues because they claim " I just want that one because it is riding"  they are asking $450.00 for it and I got her for free.   Just because I helped a real rescue, she tried to cause problems for because she wanted the drafts to re home herself.   Be very careful when dealing with this place get everything in writing, and if you sign over a horse please keep track of what they do with it.

If everything is saperated?

AUTHOR: lil grand farm - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 18, 2013

Why is there a tractor trailer load of sawdust dumped into the one QT stall that had horses in it that had strangles?  Is that not the bedding for every stall?  Separate people taking care of each barn, I witnessed the kids filling water buckets in upper barn, after they took care of the lower barn.   Mixing buckets into different stalls and filling buckets with the same hose and touching the buckets with the hose spreads strangles all through a barn very quickly.    Have been around horse all my life and when you get strangle in you barn you have is forever just go ask any dealer they call is "sickness, accumulated."     The name change was because owner was told many times can not claim to be something you are not  that is theft by deception .     To answer about the horses  they were brought from end of the line and had to be In QT before I would bring them home but interesting only got the three she did not want  HMMMM sounds like past practice to me.   So why is this place holding, racking up vet bills with out permission, on horses that don't belong to them....

Never said all of the stalls were not clean.  The QT stall in the back of owners personal Horse barn.    When people are so wrapped up in "getting free horses to sell"  has to steal horses to resale is wrong.    Claiming they have big board bills and vet bills so they can keep them to sell HMMMMM that is really honest!!!

Three mini horses that were exposed to strangles while in this places care, have cost the original owner and a previous volunteer over $7000.00 to keep them alive.    One mini lost her foal due to lack of proper care while at this place.    If this place is so, for saving horses why did this happen, and why have they not offered to help?    Why ?   interesting?????

food for thought .  This place ask me to sign papers for this horse so they could prove their case, http://www.netposse.com/view_report.asp?reportid=1707.    As a person involved with place has the missing horse in question?    I was told this poor owner could not come up with the out outrageous board bill they created to keep the horse.   Theft by deception http://definitions.uslegal.com/t/theft-by-deception/ .    That is why they will not return three horses to their owner because they can create papers after the fact so they can "pick the good ones to keep"      To address the law suit issue you speak of, only one , helped one person with a vet bill and they did not pay the payments on the credit card.   Plain and simple.    There is nothing to hide and certainly don't have to pressure anyone into standing up for what is wrong.     most people also have no need to steal from unfortunate people in a stessful time in thier live just to make $$$$  as most people go to work every day and support themselves, and give to others to help them in their time of need, and do not make up bills for them to pay.   Illegal is illegal, falsifying documents , theft by deception.   Please If you deal with this place get everything in writing and make sure it is notarized, so nothing can be falsified later after the fact.

If this is so wrong

AUTHOR: lil grand farm - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 10, 2013

Why is there owner sign over mini's that were at this so called rescue, that the owner took back due to no sign over papers, and one of the three they "signed over" is very ill after being in the rescues barn. Why did the two the owner took back have to be taken straight to a vet for treatment of strangles and are seriously ill for lack of proper care, and costing the owner thousands of dollars to save them.  This place claims to be saving horses.  Why did this rescue keep the sick mini's at the rescue for treatment knowing how serious the third one is.  And why did this so called rescue charge this owner a vet bill, they got sick while in the rescues care.   If this place is such a good place why would they have gotten sick to begin with?   So if they got sick how many more are, how many have been adopted out before they finished a true 30 quarantine.  If this place is so honest why isn't the sick horses mentioned on their facebook page.    Why is there no warning of strangle being in the so called quarantine barn. Dealer have strangles and don't hide it from buyer, ask they will tell you out right.   When buying from a auction you quarantine for 30 day.   So why if this is a rescue/haven then why should you have to quarantine when purchasing/adopting from here?

Marge you are wrong

AUTHOR: Happy Border - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 07, 2013
Marge it is beyond sad that you go to these levels to bash  the rescue and Jess all because of a personal dispute.  It is clear her who is in the wrong and who clearly needs to grow up and get a life. Jess does not need to ask people to stick up for her. People are seeing what you are doing to her and getting pissed because you are wrong.  You have all this stuff to say about the rescue and Jess but what about yourself?  You call the lady that signed over the minis and other horses and bash Jess and the rescue but did you bother to tell her the things you said? Like for instance that the blind horse just needs to fall of the trailer and break its leg  Thats real nice.  Sounds like you are all about saving the horses. And all of you talk about the poor condition of the barn the horses were at.

As for taking in free horses and making a profit she does not have to ask anyone for horses she gets plenty of  calls of people asking her to take their horses.  She has no reason or need to pressure anyone into signing over their horses. You yourself told me there is no profit in this rescue by the time you add up feed, vet bills, farrier work but oh now that has changed now. How convenient Marge

Shipping sick horses?  You are the one the one that constantly was calling and asking to take this horse, bring that horse.  If you believed the horses were not being properly cared for why did you continue to tae over horses including your own personal horses? And if you believe they werent being quarantined right why would you have your horses at the rescue barn and not the boarding barn? Which so everyone out there know Pj Beck has a rescue barn and a boarding barn.  The 2 barns and horses in them are kept separate there are special wheel barrows and everything for the rescue barn so there is no cross contamination.  There also separate people doing each barn so that they are not touching rescue horses then touching boarded horses I am witness to how much hay those percherons ate.  And why would she want them??  She just wanted paid for the ha they ate which in my opinion is 100% acceptable.

As for the name changing from rescue to Haven how does that have anything to do with honesty ?? Lets get real.

Pj Beck horse and pony haven is the best place you could get a horse. Whether it be a rescue or one of her personal horses.  Jess is straight forward about what you are getting if there as been anything going on with that horse and if she doesnt think the horse is a good match she will be honest. As a person who bought a horse off of her and boarding it at her barn I am very pleased with the way things are ran there.  I would recommend anyone to Pj Beck horse and pony haven. Dont let some crazy person who has a personal vendetta against Jess and her rescue think twice about checking out a horse from there. If you are questioning anything come out and check it out for yourself.  Im sure you will be pleased

Marge is wrong

POSTED: Wednesday, February 06, 2013

Marge I have been at Jess's barn the stalls are cleaned every day, she has an area for all the horses she brings in, they are not arround the other horses.  And she has been in this business a long time she knows what she is doing. why would you take your own horses there she doesn't know what she is doing,    She has to buy special food for most of them that come there.  I have seen them myself.

I got a pony from her only paid $100.00 for him he is great.  Bet she ran to the bank with that one

You were suppose to be her friend and friends don't do these things just because they are upset harassing her with text and e-mails now this.  I know of tree other people that were your friends too and guess what you did the same thing to them.  harssing e-mails text and even court.  So who is in the wrong here Marge

I don't need to ask people to stand up for me

AUTHOR: lil grand farm - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 06, 2013

In response to anonymous if they are so honest why did they change the name of this so called rescue?  Why do they find it necessary to delete pictures of the horses that were there?   Why do they feel it necessary to point the finger at a place they were getting free horses from claiming the sick horses came from them.   Well when taking in broker owned horses most people know how to quarantine properly so all the horses on the farm don't get sick.   A minimum of 30 day.  Not two weeks.  Please contact a vet and ask how to quarantine.   A rescue don't send a volunteer sick horses to fatten up then have them foot the bill for antibiotics.   Have paper work from vets office for 1000 smz.   Also have pictures of horses I committed to from broker lot, and receipts for payment for two of the three as the third the fees were paid.

As to I had horses there.  Yes I did had four and also had five that belonged to the "rescue" to fatten up on my farm.   Any horse owner knows the cost of fattening up a thin horse.    I did not ask for any of my personal rescues to be vetted as I have my own vet I trust.  I was pressured into selling the ones I committed.  " there are more to save these are taking up space"   Now all of the sudden there is vet bills, and one of my horses made all the horses there sick.  This goes back to proper quarantining, and proper disinfecting and stripping stall.    The pictures they deleted showed a lot of manure in the QT stall they put two new arrivals in, were two that shipped to oceola,pa with snotty noses came out of that same stall.     People that have things to hide always fight back the hardest when exposed.   All the rebuttals show that very clearly.    If you are happy with your rescue from here that is great, just QT it for 30 days min. so you don't end up like this volunteer did.

As far as the cost of feeding and vetting.   When you are taking feed from someone to feed their horses you should not post that horse standing in front of a round bale, when third cut hay and senior feed, beet pulp, and hay cubes were bought for this old horse because of her teeth "are soft" according the the "rescue"   Then claim two horses ate so much hay when there was four horses eating it, and only charge one person instead of both owners of all four horses.   Saving horses is a major expense have been doing it for years.   I do not flip horses in a matter of weeks.   I keep them till they are up to weight and the feet, teeth, and all the vetting is done, and what ever they need fora health happy life.    You can not see what a horse is truly like in a few weeks.   Ask questions how long has it been there, talk to the vet, talk to the black smith, as any real rescue will tell you to do your home work, make sure it is health.

Not harassing no one.  Stating facts hoping someone does not fall pray to a scam,  Dealing horses is dealing horses.  I don't need to hide anything, nor do I have a ax to grind.   I have a true love for the horse and take very good care of anyone's animal in my care.    Having a big heart has cost me a lot dealing with this place.     I pay for everything I have and don't expect to get nothing free.   Possessions can be replaced but a life can not, horses can not speak but they have a way of telling the truth just ask them.    Truth will come out indue time.

SERIOUSLY?

AUTHOR: Krystal - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 06, 2013

First off, Marge, you yourself have been a very active member of this rescue since it was started. Not only have you transported rescues to and from there,  but you have kept your own personal horses at PJ Beck Horse and Pony Haven. Now because of a personal dispute with Jess, you have resorted to something like this?

Every rescue, no matter what animal is involved, is expensive to run!  There are vet bills, farrier costs, feed, board, and the evaluating that goes into each horse to see what level of care they will require and how experienced of a rider they will need to have. From following the site I have yet to see a horse that I consider to be priced to high.  In order to stay afloat, especially in this economy, Jess must sale each horse/pony for enough to cover what she has in them(and considering some of these horses are going for 100$-200$ I don't know how she does it).

I personally have my horse boarded with Jess. The rescue horses are brought into a completely different barn then the borders until she is sure that they are healthy.  Anyone with any animal knows that they can become sick at any time and will need vet care. That includes horses!  When and if an animal becomes sick, Jess makes sure they are taken care of. Jess herself, helped with my mare when she became ill and saved me a ton of vet bills!  If a horse requires more care then Jess can do, then the vet is called in.

Please do not believe anything that is being said about PJ Beck Horse and Pony Haven. There are satisfied people everywhere(including a personal friend of mine) that has adopted animals from this Haven. Go to her page and check out what some of these animals have looked liked before they were rescued, and you will see for your own eyes what this Haven is about!  I am very pleased with the care my personal horse receives, and I will continue to volunteer with PJ Beck and try and help Jess make a difference in theses animals lives.

Very pleased with PJ Beck!

AUTHOR: Danielle - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2013

I have adopted from this rescue and I was very pleased with the whole process. The owner was extremely honest with us. She told us outright that the horse we were interested had recently received treatment for an upper respiratory issue. She also made sure he was clear and healthy before we brought him home. The horse we adopted happened to have a hoof issue, making him slightly lame. She made sure we were aware of this problem and fully disclosed the info passed on from her farrier. We were even told the farrier would consult with our personal farrier if needed.
Profit? I have been a horse owner for over twenty years. I've boarded and kept on my own property. Horses are expensive creatures. The horse we got had coggins, shots, and brand new front shoes. The small adoption fee we paid wouldn't have covered these services. Oh and then add in hay, grain, and bedding..plus general maintaining of the farm itself. Where's the profit?
As far as her turning away a horse she didn't think was adoptable, well that's her right. If she took in every horse in need of a home she would become overcrowded very quickly. She has to consider how many horses she already has and how many she thinks will be adopted out in order to maintain a safe environment for the horses to live and be rehabilitated.

Really Marge, that the best you can do

AUTHOR: Debbie - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 05, 2013

So they didn't list their names...really, that's it!  I adopted a horse from PJ Beck Horse and Pony Haven, and I couldn't be happier.  I was impressed with the facility, the horses and most of all Jess.  Everything she told me about my newly adopted horse was true, and my horse came with a current coggins.  It was obvious that she had farrier work done very recently.  My horse came from a kill buyer lots, and there were pictures on a site to prove this to me. I could see how she was already gaining weight, while being at PJ Beck Haven.  It is a total shame that Marge feels the need to slander a rescue, who is only trying to help horses in need.  Yes I did pay a fee to adopt my horse, a very small fee if you ask me.  I personally own 5 other horses, so I know the cost in caring for a horse.  Vet fee, trip charge, current coggins, rabies shot, farrier work, feed and hay.  Really....do you expect them to do this for free!  Even animal shelters charge an adoption fee.  I also saw pictures of my horse being ridden...by children no less.  These photos were available for anyone to see, not just for adoption purposes, but to let the public see how the rescues horses were doing.  You mentioned someone thinks they were overcharged for hay....again... really! Did Jess beg them to stay at her facility or was she allowing them to stay, to help them out.  Did they expect her to feed them for free, hay is getting very expensive in Pa., as the winter progresses. Also what is their name..you seem to think if their name isn't posted its not true, are we to believe the same!  Find someone else to slander, leave Jess and her facility alone.  If I had more space I would adopt again, and I have no problems referring my friends to PJ Beck Horse and Pony Haven.

My experiences with this rescue.

AUTHOR: Bystander #1 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 04, 2013

To me, the title of the complaint shows lack of knowledge as to how a rescue works. Horses are expensive to keep, plain and simple. No one really makes much profit these days, especially when selling/placing/rehoming horses that are primarily for backyard trail/pleasure use v. race or show horses. Even if horses are donated to the rescue by their owners, the rescue still has to feed the horse, provide medical care, foot care, etc. All of this costs money.  There is no such thing as a "free" horse, so if the rescue is charging in order to get it's expenses back and make some money to offset operating costs, so be it. They should be. They are still going to be operating at a loss when the dust settles. I am a former Board of Directors member of a now defunct rescue. For every horse that is placed who brings in a decent adoption fee, there are two or three more that cost a fortune in vet bills, stay at the rescue for a long time because they are hard to adopt out, etc.

I have 2 horses from this rescue in my barn. One was adopter by one of my boarders and the other is one I adopted myself. Both came in healthy, had been through a quarantine, and had a current coggins, as well as paperwork showing what vet work had been done.  Both were reasonably priced - $200 and $100 respectively - and these prices probably were less what the rescue had spent on each of them. Both horses were healthy and were exactly as they were described as far as temperment, training, suitability, etc. Neither brough any disease into my barn.

I also asked about another horse that was there and was told that she was not what I was looking for in regard to temperment. They were also honest and told me this horses has a health problem that would require medication.

As far as what went on between this group and other people. Hearsay is just that - hearsay. It's not worth discussing unless you were an eyewitness and from what I have witnessed, this is a legit operation that is not out to do anything except survive financially while placing homeless horses - not a bad goal, to my way of thinking.

I don't believe this for one minute

AUTHOR: Very happy adopter - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, February 04, 2013

I personally have adopted a horse from this Haven & I am very satisfied with them. The lady there was very honest & upfront with me. I received papers from the vet showing that the horse I adopted had been free of any illness, she also explained what everything meant since I was a new horse owner.  What she is doing is great, From what was stated in the report that horses that were signed over from an old owner, that she is asking for a fee for them.

I see nothing wrong with that. Obviously they are feeding, having the vet come out to see each horse, having the person who trims their feet- All this costs money. Also asking for an adoption fee (which from what I've seen is not an outrageous price) does nothing but make sure they are going to a good home. Also it states that she had hauled for this Haven so to me this sounds like who ever wrote this was helping with the haven. Personally this sounds like this was written to try & bad mouth the Haven.

But from what I have seen in person & I follow the page regularly  They do keep up on all the horses they find homes for & they even asked me to please keep in touch & to send pictures of our pony.  I DONT BELIEVE ANY OF THIS REPORT OF ONE MINUTE  SO SAD THAT PEOPLE CANT HELP OUT THE NEEDY WITH OUT BEING BASHED IN SOME WAY.  If you want to see a rip off look @ some of the other places that claim to be a rescue (AC$H & SDS- i considered buying one from them to save as well until I read up on them).

This place is wonderful & I have recommended several of my friends to contact them to find their next horse or pony.

Go to their page their are many updates from happy new horse owners :)  this is proof that this place is wonderful.
