I was trading in my '01 Chevy.

I called the dealership up, checked out their website and found a 2003 Monte Carlo.

I went in on a Friday, checked out the car and told them I would take it. So we agreed on all the numbers, they got the payoff on the Blazer and sent it to financing.

I left, told them I didn't want to take the car, I hate doing that when it's not mine yet....and they said they would call me when they got the financing approved.

Several days and calls went buy. They kept telling me because I was upside down in the Blazer, they were having a hard time...already knew that was going to happen.

Finally, someone approved it...happened to be Household (not my favorite company in the world, but they got the job done). I, like a lot of people, don't have immaculate credit. I knew the rate was going to be high, but when I went in to sign, they said it was going to be 18%. I laughed myself out of the chair. They eventually bought the rate down to what I'm paying now, which still isn't a good 15.9%.

This whole process took about a week. By the way, I told the dealership, both the salesperson and the finance guy, that I was using the Blazer payment in part of the downpayment. They both said that was fine. I didn't think it would take them long to pay off the Blazer, so I wasn't worried about it.

Over the next several weeks, I had been checking with the Blazer finance company to see if it's been paid off. Then, when I get off the phone with them, I call the dealership to find out what's going on. I get difference excuses every time.

The first time they told me that because it was a holiday, Household was backed up. Then I had to come in and sign a new contract...Household made them lower the price. Then someone at the dealership forgot to sign something. The list is endless. I was also told that they were in contact with them, so I shouldn't worry about it.

When I expressed my concern about the payment being late (almost 30 days by now), they said they guarantee that it won't be reported late (hummm, wonder how they do that?). Then I was told it could be 60 past due and it still wouldn't be reported late. Apparently they thought I was stupid when it came to these things.

A week or so later, I called the finance company one last time and was told that it still wasn't paid off and was now past due 30 days and it would be reported. I came unglued. They also told me that no one had contacted them since the original pay-off quote was given last month.

I went down to the dealership and demanded to speak with the General Manager. I yelled at them for several minutes and they went off to investigate. They came back and told me that they aren't sure why it hasn't been paid off yet, but they would make 2 payments to the finance company. I said that's not good enough....I will not accept a 30 day late because of their neglect. I said I don't care what you have to do, but you better not let that 30 day late be reported. So they said they would call the finance company and explain the situation. It happens all the time is what they told me...pretty sad if you ask me.

So, the next day, I called the finance company to find out if someone really called. The only notation they had was that someone called for a payoff. This company keeps really good notes of conversations. So I called up the dealership again screaming...they said they would find out and call me back. Never did...I called the finance company again, and this time, they actually had notes of the conversation.

The dealer finally paid off my trade in more than a month after I traded the car in. I also had to go to GM directly to get something done.

A few days ago I received a Coverage Agreement from GM Protection Plan in the mail. I thought maybe GM had changed how they do warranties, until I started reading it. It was an extended warranty. I never agreed to purchase an extended warranty when I bought the car. I called GM Protection Plan about it, and they said it had been purchased for $1665. I told them I never agreed to buy it and never signed anything to that effect. They said that I would have had to have signed something for it and to call the dealer. So I called the dealer. After talking to a couple people, they said they would have to pull my file and call me back. A few minutes later, the finance guy called me and said that he had a signed contract in the file. He said he would be happy to cancel it if I wanted. I said no, I want to see this contract. So I went down there. He pulled the contract out, and I go immediately to the signature. It wasn't mine. In fact, it looked nothing like my signature. I showed him the signed contract signature and the one on the warranty contract, and they looked nothing like each other. All he could say was "I don't know who signed it". Of course, right across from the signature was his.

I walked out of the office, made a copy of it, handed it back to him and told him he'd be hearing from my attorney.

I told the dealer that I would be in at noon the next day to pick up copies of the documents that I signed. The only piece of paper they've given me is the original sales contract I signed. I don't have a copy of the second one I signed, odometer statements, or anything else. The finance guy said he would have them ready, along with calling the warranty company and cancelling it.

11:00 rolls around and I call the warranty company. They haven't heard anything from the dealer. So I explain the situation to them and they cancel it right there.

I go in at noon and find the finance guy. I asked him if he had called the warranty company yet, he said they were doing it right now. My guess is he saw me coming and made a run for it. I told him not to bother, it had already been done. Then I asked him where the papers were that were supposed to have been copied. Hadn't done that either. He goes away for a minute and comes back with a copy of the contract (not the carbon that I'm supposed to receive), nothing else. I told him again that I wanted a copy of every piece of paper that had my signature on it. He left for a while again. Came back and said that the only person that is "allowed" to make copies of those documents was at lunch and to call her later today. I got irritated and told him to go find a manager. He came back a few minutes later and said there was nothing they could do, I have to talk to this other person.

So I left. I drove around the block fuming mad and decided that I didn't want to waste any more time and went back. I went in and told the "customer relations" person the story and that I wasn't going to leave until I had those copies in my hand. She goes away for a few minutes and in walks this guy. He practically throws the papers I had given to her at me and tells me that they weren't going to give me anything more and he was "tired of dealing with me". Then told me to leave.

I would strongly recommend avoiding this dealership, along with the other AutoNation dealerships in Amarillo. They have lied to me on numerous occasions and have committed a crime. I will never do business with them or any other AutoNation dealership again.
