Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

As I have seen numerous reports fro this company, this should come as NO SURPRISE to anyone (and if you google planet fitness phone number, even the reviews for it under there will tell you)

I joined in early 2008 for fear it was better than nothing because I had lost my job, had no money, and had a past due at another gym, but, still wanted to workout. Plus, they were the closest to my, despite the fact I am "against" planet fitness, I figured, can't be picky when you're poor, and joined for the 78 down fee they were running with the 30 day money back. Worked out twice. Hated the gym, and ended up needing the 78 dollras back because I was too poor.

When I joined they required a "card" for "proof" even though I was giving cash, AND told them I would be paying cash every month....I gave them my card, paid the cash, and they wouldn't take my card (debit card) with no money on it for "proof" because it wasn't active (but it had my name on it?)....(Important: it was canceled because that was my bank of america card that was NEGATIVE because I had overdrafted and i was about almost 200 negative on it and it was now closed)

So, planet fitness wouldn't take it. I had a duplicate card from BOA in my moms name that she gave me. They said I HAD to put a card on my account, which I didn't appreciate, so I gave them my moms, which was another big pain in the a*s b/c then they needed to verify her, etc etc ...when I didn't think it should matter they should've just took mine and I would've been paying cxash anyway.

Anyway, eventually, we got my moms card on there (which is current, not negative, and she told me she didn't want to be charged every month so I had to remove it)

So, I used that card to join, then I changed it to mine that they wouldn't take in the first place, and they let me change it once i was joined, but wouldn't let me join with it?, my negative card was on there now, but i intended to pay cash until I realized I couldn't afford it, I better cancel my memebership now before the 30 days because I am broke.

So, I worked out twice, and went back to cancel. Wanted to 78 dollar refund. They said They would put the refund back on the card....I explained the card is canceled, and negative, DO NOT put it back on the card....spoke to manager, she called corporate, etc, and assured me UP AND DOWN that the money would be SENT TO ME VIA CHECK.

Never got a check. Asked them where is my money? Told me they "put it back on the card". I was pissed. I said, what do you mean "back on" the card? It was never on that card, I DID NOT authorize you to put anything on MY card, AND i was promised I WOULD GET A CHECK. Corporate was stupid and a pain to deal with, plus VERY unsympathetic (just like the manager girl I delt with whom I also called to ask why she did that). Explained I was poor and i was 200 negative on that card and when you put it back on there, it got EATEN UP because the card was negative, explained I had told her NOT to do that, that SHE told me I would get a check..she says, "we refund you the way you paid..." .....I said, "i paid cash, that card has been closed for a year, i didn't pay with that."

I was very upset and they REFUSED to give me my refund "again" when I got ripped off and didn't even get that money back.

What makes it worse:

when I asked them about sending the check and they swore I would get a check and NOT a direct deposit of the money (how can they just put the money in any account) i told them upfron the card on my account is negative....if you are going to refund it i will pull the card off my account or put another one on (like my moms) and they swore to me I would get a check, then, when I didn't were not going to be sorry or back up THEIR MISTAKE. Even if the girl was wrong in telling me they would send me a check, they should have to honor what they tell their customers....I told them "if you had told me you were going to go and do that I could have taken off that negative card and given you one that was current so I couyld have gotten my money!!"

Very rude and uncaring, difficult to deal with, made it extremely difficult to deal with and offered nothing in return for my loss and hassles...not even a month free or something.

Now I hate them even more.

I have a few questions...

Do you have proof that you paid in cash... example, a receipt.... Do you have proof that your account was closed? If you have both these things thank them on behalf of Bank of America for their generous gift to the bank, and ask them to send you a check for the amount that they owe you. In actuality the bank/credit card merchant erred in accepting any transaction for a closed account, but PF goofed when they failed to follow your instructions and return the money to you in the way it was paid to them. Their only choices were cash or check, to do otherwise is actually a violation of their credit card merchant services aggreement, not to mention it is no different than them giving your money to John Doe since the bank was not a party to the original or any subsequent transaction. So they have no standing in this situation.

Now the fact that you owed money to the bank, you might want to consider this a demonstration of your good faith to pay the money back and avoid any punitive actions from BAC, but PF was definetly in error.... Don't let them off the hook....
