Beware of Planet Fitness Gym memberships, I joined the Planet Fitness in Cookeville, Tennessee on January 8th, 2015 and became a Black Card member @ $22.00 per month witha 12 month commitment. In July of 2015 I moved to Abilene, Texas and transferred my membership to the Abilene location located on Barrow Street. My commitment was over January 8th 2016. I told a staff member in December that I would not be renewing the membership and that I wanted my membership cancelled when my commitment was over and to stop drafting my bank account for the membership fee.

On January 19th, they charged me for another month of membership even though their system stated that the membership was cancelled. I called the local location and could NOT get a employee on the telephone so I left a message for someone to contact me. No one ever called me back so I drove to the gym and asked for the manager and I was informed the manager was not there. I asked the employee to have the manager call me and no one bothered to call me. The employee informed me that the membership was still active and that they had no record that the membership was cancelled. The employee informed me that I had to sign some papers to cancel my membership. So, I signed a form they printed that I had not been informed I needed to back in December of 2015 when I told them to cancel the membership the first time.

I have always been leery of allowing anyone to autodraft payments from my bank account and this experience has reinforced why no one should ever allow anyone to autodraft (ACH) funds from their checking accounts.

I want my money back for the charges from Planet Fitness for all unused funds and since my bank has dinged my checking account for $36.00 for a NSF I want that money re-imbursed also and if they attempt to draft my checking account a subsequent time I expect that money back also.

I lived up to my end of the agreement but Planet Fitness fraudulently billed me for time not used and not wanted.

This entire episode could have been avoided if someone from management could have been bothered to communicate with me and make this right.

The lesson learned by me is NEVER allow any business to autodraft funds from your checking account.
